I wouldn't call it a conspiracy, though. I know some of them well enough to conclude that it is a not a single organization, but a loose group. Some of them seem to be fake, but others seem to be sincere in their convictions.

I'd like to share a couple of additional links you may find interesting:

Remember this guy? Given the timing, I suspect that some of these projects were supposed to be sinecures for former Twitter employees.

This is a draft of a FEP about mandatory CSAM scanning. As one of the FEP repo maintainers, I immediately raised concerns about privacy, centralization, etc. That made me persona non grata at W3C.

pistolero@p@fsebugoutzone.org (2026-04-18 04:50:38) :globalistlocated: Lotta fluoride moving through the glowieverse. Welcome to Friday Hell. Hold onto your :manhattan3: while I poke the global surveillance bear. :terryno:

TL;DR: :glowing::glowinthedark::globalistlocated::plasticbottle::fluoride::drinkfluoride::manhattan3: INDEPENDENT FEDERATED TRUST AND SAFETY (but first I talk about mirroring for a couple of paragraphs)

A lot of the URLs can be mirrored to your instance locally and read/replied to/reposted on your instance without making you look at the glowie servers. Paste the URLs into the search bar, they'll show up on your instance. This should probably be easier in most FEs.⁰

:zerocool::acidburn::lordnikon: You know what's better than archive.today links? Mirroring the shit onto a few dozen fedi instances. You put, e.g., https://wedistribute.org/2025/02/iftas-funding-crisis/ into the search bar, it is mirrored to your instance. If you reply to it or repost it (or you are on Pleroma and you smash dat like), it is mirrored to instances where someone follows you. :phantomphreak::plague::cereal:

:glowing: IFTAS is making another push for centralizing fedi. IFTAS is a surveillance/steering organization that has enough overlap with Newsmast, the Social Web Foundation, Oliphant, FediMod, indieweb.social, hachyderm.io, that they are effectively the same organization. (Sockpuppets are bad when you're LITERALLY HARASSING JOURNALISTS but it is fine to use orgs as sockpuppets. These people spin up 501(c)(3)s faster than most of us spin up domains. The orgs are, not coincidentally, all based in .us/.de/.uk/.ca.) Here's who they are: https://about.iftas.org/advisory/ .

:glowinthedark: The organizations get government/corporate funding through organizations like nlnet or the Social Web Foudnation ( https://socialwebfoundation.org/2025/03/27/defederation-on-the-fediverse/ ) or the Ford Foundation through the DIIF. everton137@everton137@social.vivaldi.net (2026-04-18 04:42:23) I had the opportunity to tell the founders of the Sovereign Tech Agency (@sovtechfund) that I'm a big fan of their organization. I firmly believe that other countries should have similar initiatives. In fact, the EU should have one too.

Their recent €600k+ grant to Mastodon is a great example of what public investment in open digital infrastructure can look like. It strengthens the Fediverse, a real alternative to X. As I’ve argued in the #LeaveX campaign: we already have a viable social media alternative to X (1) and what we lack is sustained funding and political commitment. (2)

Thus, if more EU countries invested in improving Mastodon, how quickly could it become Europe’s de facto public square?

While most European politicians still prefer X for their official communication, reducing technical barriers could attract a more diverse audience, including the people our representatives want to reach, like journalists and the general public.

By the way, it's interesting, though not surprising, that the Sovereign Tech Agency has almost four times as many followers on Mastodon as on Bluesky. It would be great to see them highlighting posts and profiles of some awesome open-source projects active on the Fediverse. 😉

Reply to @mczachurski@mastodon.social Matthias Pfefferle@pfefferle@mastodon.social (2026-04-18 03:36:56) @mczachurski I am more of a fan of the Activity Extension (your FEP). Adding meta data to HTML might be a noisy and with JSON meta, every platform can decide if and how itt wants to show them.

silverpill@silverpill@mitra.social (2026-04-18 02:38:47) An interesting development happens in funfedidev/schemas project. It's a JSON schema validator for Fediverse:

https://schemas.funfedi.dev/activity-pub-question/

In this example it loads the JSON schema from FEP-9967: Polls, which you can use to validate your Question object.

#fedidev

Marcin Czachurski@mczachurski@mastodon.social (2026-04-18 01:57:41) I’m looking for input from ActivityPub experts. Vernissage supports reading and exchanging EXIF metadata from photos (currently visible only in supporting systems). Would it be reasonable (if explicitly enabled by the user) to automatically embed this metadata as HTML in outgoing ActivityPub posts, so other platforms could render it within the status content? This could eliminate the need for manual copying. Curious whether this is considered a good practice or an anti-pattern. 🤔 ---Attachments--- image: https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/116/421/102/904/220/441/original/b012d340faf7f0d2.jpeg

yeah iceshrimp.net has implemented biting users and biting notes, so there are two types of notifications. For example, "xxx bit you" or "xxx bit your note." But if these bite notifications don't clear automatically, it could end up flooding your notifications.

Perhaps because they couldn't control this behavior, they added a feature called can bite. But I don't know the specific implementation process, because I haven't seen the code of iceshrimp.net yet.

>It can be added if necessary.

maybe not because currently only iceshrimp and wafrn support it.

Reply to @mkljczk@pl.fediverse.pl silverpill@silverpill@mitra.social (2026-04-18 01:28:46) @mkljczk That's reasonable, I also plan to implement basic comment moderation in Mitra. It will probably be a mix of interaction policies and conversation containers.

Reply to @mkljczk@pl.fediverse.pl nicole mikołajczyk@mkljczk@pl.fediverse.pl (2026-04-18 01:20:48) @silverpill I want to eventually implement interaction policies in a way that doesn't pretend it does what it can't so it would allow moderating replies collection and locally work like the 'hidden replies' thing on twitter

Reply to @caohuak@moon.lonewolf.zone silverpill@silverpill@mitra.social (2026-04-18 01:20:25) @caohuak @frost This is a non-standard activity type, so Iceshrimp needs a type hint. It can be added if necessary.

Reply to @silverpill@mitra.social nicole mikołajczyk@mkljczk@pl.fediverse.pl (2026-04-18 01:17:35) @silverpill The minimal one. It ignores incoming interactionPolicy and hardcodes automatic approval for outgoing posts
