If you're on mastodon.social or any instance that runs the 4.6 beta, the latest Collections feature should work. If you run into a problem, please open an issue on #Codeberg. Thank you.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-06-05 13:24:56) RE: https://toot.fedilab.app/@apps/116691506099830684

Collections are a new feature introduced in Mastodon 4.6 (currently in beta), the equivalent of starter packs. Anyone can create a group of accounts they recommend following, usually around a theme, and share that collection with a link. Collections are also displayed on the profile page. Only unlocked accounts that have opted into discovery features can be added to a collection, up to 25 accounts each. If someone adds you, you are notified and can remove yourself at any time.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-06-04 20:04:36) Collections will be available in the next release of #Fedilab. ---Attachments--- image: https://cdn.masto.host/tootfedilabapp/media_attachments/files/116/691/505/701/543/153/original/a4b2045a21373949.png

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-30 04:43:34) After a full week of work on #HolosSocial, I will deploy the new relay code tomorrow to support multi-device, and compile the apps.
Next week I will be back to #Fedilab.
Switching too much between projects doesn't help, but spending more than a week on a single project is not a good move either.
Fedilab and Holos are two big projects that deserve a balanced approach. Thank you for your patience.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-27 05:22:23) Most people know about messages, photos and videos on the #Fediverse. But the #ActivityPub protocol actually defines several object types, each one distinct and more or less compatible across apps:

- Note: short post (Mastodon)
- Article / Page: long text or shared link (WriteFreely, Lemmy)
- Image (Pixelfed)
- Video (PeerTube)
- Audio (Funkwhale)
- Event with date and place (Mobilizon)

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-24 05:22:30) I read your concerns and I deeply appreciate them. The goal was only to give more visibility on what is being fixed and improved. Things are working well as they are, and some of you warned me about side effects. If I ever start to feel uncomfortable with milestones, from pressure or anything else, I can always tell you and stop. What we all want is to make Fedilab better.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-23 06:03:26) A few weeks ago I opened a fundraiser to replace my old Mac. My latest builds confirmed how unworkable it has become: I spent my time freeing disk space and waiting for builds to finish one after the other. I cannot continue like this.

The contributions received so far cover a good part of the new computer. I make the choice to spread the rest over a 10-month payment plan, only possible thanks to your support.

Thank you all.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-23 03:34:44) I wrote my first blog post on my dev site to explain my recent work on Holos. It lets me better explain my choices, where I am, what I did, and what I plan to do next.
If you want to know more about Holos for Desktop, it's here: https://tom79.dev/posts/holos-desktop/
I might write others from time to time for other projects such as Fedilab.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-17 06:35:52) A new fundraising campaign is open to help me keep building Holos and my other projects across every platform. The full story, including what changed since my last attempt, is in the linked post. Thanks for reading, and for sharing.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-17 01:51:34) #Fedilab 3.40.1 is available!

This release integrates #OfflineTranslator as an external app that allows you to translate content offline if you have this app installed. You can also now choose to place the compose button at the top when using reverse mode.
The release also brings several fixes.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-16 05:26:04) I'm comfortable building and designing projects, but I'm honestly bad at promoting them.
I tried a donation call once for a new Mac, but after two hours I felt uncomfortable asking while Holos and my iOS work weren't mature enough to justify it. I closed the campaign and refunded the donors. Ironically, donations came later, on their own, with kind messages, covering about 10% of the computer budget.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-14 05:09:39) Concerning #Fedilab, with close to 8 million messages indexed, I think #HolosDiscover now has enough content to be worth integrating.
Full API support would allow pinning tailored timelines and interacting with new content. This would be particularly useful for small instances.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-14 04:29:27) #Holos is a new social network working with #ActivityPub. This is not an app where you can connect your Mastodon, Pixelfed or PeerTube account.
There is no web version and no API because the ActivityPub server runs on the device itself. That's the whole challenge behind this project.
If there is more engagement, I plan to build a desktop version and even sync between different devices.

The official account for all announcements is @HolosSocial

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-13 05:31:59) I am really more efficient at fixing issues and bringing improvements to #Fedilab thanks to @HurricaneWeasel. If you think Fedilab has become more active these past months, it is obviously thanks to his precious help in managing issues. If you use #Codeberg, you might know him :)
A big thank you to you Fluffy <3

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-13 04:56:57) I'll be taking a short break for two days (Thursday and Friday). First, I'll fix the immediate side effects of #Fedilab 3.40, then I'll move on to #HolosSocial fixes and improvements.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-13 01:13:35) #Fedilab 3.40.0 is available.

What's new:
- Allow bookmarks to be pinned as timeline tab
- Add custom emoji independent size setting with tap to preview
- Add emoji autocomplete in CW and poll fields
- Add reverse sort order for bookmarks and favourites
- Auto-hide bubble timeline when instance doesn't support it

Several enhancements and fixes. See the full release notes: https://codeberg.org/tom79/Fedilab/releases/tag/3.40.0

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-11 00:00:14) Following the recommendations I got, I set up a #NodeBB forum to discuss the projects #Fedilab, #Holos, #CastLab and #Fedle.

Each category federates over #ActivityPub, so you can follow it directly from your Fediverse account: @fedilab, @holos, @castlab, @fedle.

More details: https://forum.fedilab.app/post/2

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-10 07:28:02) I just sent my first grant request to help fund my open source work, mainly to replace my old Mac. It crashes during builds, forcing me to kill apps and delete files to free up space, then wipe everything and reinstall emulators when switching between Android and iOS. For now I've focused on Android, but it defeats the whole point of buying a Mac. A new machine would let me work on both.
Fingers crossed! I'll keep you informed.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-08 07:39:09) Behind Fedilab and other projects I'm a solo dev, and I've grown really attached to some accounts I keep seeing around. We don't know each other personally, but open source allows that genuine closeness built on real trust. Fedilab and any other project would be nothing without you. Keeping this proximity with contributors is the best part. Thank you for being there :)

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-08 06:48:44) Just for information, if you have a #DeepL API key, you can perfectly use it with #Fedilab. Just search for "DeepL" in the settings. A single tap lets you customize the settings. ---Attachments--- image: https://cdn.masto.host/tootfedilabapp/media_attachments/files/116/535/494/145/616/254/original/42bd38e1b913715a.png

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-06 01:06:40) #Fedilab 3.39.0 is available.

What's new:
- Reorganized settings with categories and search
- Option to refresh all timelines at once on pull-to-refresh (default disabled)
- Support for custom poll durations based on instance
- Support for web+ap:// and web+activitypub:// protocols
- Quotes now open inside the app instead of the browser (remote)
It also brings several fixes, including a fix for #Pixelfed login failure.

Full release notes: https://codeberg.org/tom79/Fedilab/releases/tag/3.39.0

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-05 02:32:09) The bug when logging in to your #Pixelfed account is now fixed in #Fedilab.

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-04 19:15:14) Settings in #Fedilab have been reworked to improve the UX.

A search feature is now available to filter them. The settings are also organized into clearer categories, and the matching item is highlighted when you tap it.

To translators, this feature introduces many new keywords used for filtering. Thank you for your contribution. ---Attachments--- image: https://cdn.masto.host/tootfedilabapp/media_attachments/files/116/515/780/126/706/207/original/f0d728b62a415316.png

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-04 03:10:03) A hard drive on the server failed earlier today, causing a temporary outage on all services.
The drive has been replaced and everything is back online. Sorry for that.

Reply to @apps@toot.fedilab.app Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-03 06:20:16) I am considering a one-time Ko-fi fundraiser to buy a refurbished M4 Pro MacBook Pro 14" with 24 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD on Apple's refurbished store. Around 2,650 EUR.
If I do this, it would be a one-time fundraiser, not a recurring campaign. I will share an update once it is done. (3/5)

Reply to @apps@toot.fedilab.app Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-03 06:20:16) The 2019 Intel MacBook Pro is reaching its limits. Beyond Fedilab and iOS apps, I also run Docker containers locally to test my web projects (Holos Discover, Holos Relay, Fedle) and to build Fedilab for F-Droid. The 512 GB SSD fills up every two weeks, parallel builds are no longer possible, and Xcode performance on Intel is far behind Apple Silicon.
I can keep going like this, but it is not comfortable. (2/5)

Fedilab Apps@apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-05-03 06:20:16) A bit of context before a poll at the end of this thread. I want to be transparent about something I am considering, and ask for your honest input before going further.
A few years ago I bought a used Intel MacBook Pro to start exploring iOS development alongside Fedilab. The bet has paid off. The Apple Developer license is paid, Holos is now live on iOS via TestFlight, and Fediplan and CastLab are next in line for iOS (1/5)
