I yearn for the day where Meta has lost all relevance and significance in the world. I want Mark Zuckerberg to be a character we can forget about. I’m tired of seeing a headline, a short clip, a passing remark about how unrelatable he is. We know. We all know. He uses his unbelievable wealth and power to make our lives worse so his can be better. There’s nothing about it that the rest of us can relate to. I just want it to go away. No Instagram, no WhatsApp, no Facebook. None of it.

It’s not just Americans who keep Meta relevant, with their usage of these apps. Europe has to recognize its reliance on WhatsApp. Japan has to contend with its reliance on Instagram. There must be new and good software solutions for both communication and information distribution that do not rely on these services. It is the only way out. No one can quit unless something is better and freer. To do that without ad revenue is near-impossible, but it needs to happen. It has to. For our own good.

@louie@pdx.social my mother's side of the family is from Brazil so we visit there a lot and quite literally almost nobody there uses anything other than WhatsApp for communication :neofox_googly_shocked:
