This is it; I don't like anything about it and will be considering alternate frontends when it ships. I have no feedback. My advice is "identify everything different between Mastodon 4 and 5, and do the opposite of that". The worst thing about this is the cursed "floating" compose window. I hate this in gmail, I hate it in every app that has it. I like how in current Mastodon Advanced I can work on a post on the left side while looking at something else on the right side

I hate the anxiety of feeling like the window I'm typing into is a soap bubble that will disappear if I try to interact with anything

I hate when interfaces that previously had nice, clear lines, *literal lines*, between interface elements of different semantic type, get redesigned to instead have vague, fuzzy, screen-eating¹ whitespace dividers. I have hated this since 2009. I stopped using the iPhone because it adopted this philosophy. I feel it massively increases cognitive load because instead of functional areas the screen is just various floating text
¹ I use apps at a relatively high zoom level and my screen is not big
