Can you daily-drive postmarketOS? by @allpurposemat
"This talk will cover the positives and negatives of fully committing to running Linux in my pocket for the past year. Notably, I'll recount:
following the development process of audio on the Fairphone 5, from a user's point of view
traveling with pmOS
notes UI-hopping between GNOME, Phosh, and KDE
various fun tidbits (and scares) throughout
I'll then finish by going over a couple small projects/fixes I dabbled in, showing how you can easily contribute anywhere in the ecosystem where you see an improvement.
And, of course, most importantly... will I go back to Android? (no!!)"

Corroding Alpine: Performant APKBUILD-capable tooling by @ptrc
"Long-time Alpine developer, first-time presenter.
Hi! I'm Patrycja [/paˈtrɘ.t͡sja/], DevOps engineer by day, FOSS enthusiast by night. I maintain ~400 packages in Alpine – notably, most of Mozware – as well as review MRs and handle silly issues. I've also been rather fascinated by making things work on Alpine/musl, like Spotify, Firefox, or Servo[1][2], trying to upstream fixes whenever possible.
Besides that, I'm really keen on useful tooling[3][4][5] – if you're like me in that regard, stay tuned for my Sunday talk <3"

Virtual Reality on PostmarketOS by @HaeckseAlexandra
"I am a long time PC Virtual Reality user (Valve Index) and avoid the Meta Quest and other Android devices. When the Steam Frame was announced, I asked my self will it run postmarketOS or another distro?
I had a look a https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Category:Headset and found out that none of the devices fits my use case. So I started building my own one, based on HadesVR.
Since I know that my OnePlus 6 is alreay supported by both Godot Native Mobile VR and postmarketOS, I think that is a good startingpoint. My next plan is to get Godot Engine running on a postmarketOS phone, once that works start porting Monado. For 6DoF Tracking, I will be using libsurvive (an Open Source Lighthouse Tracking library) with a Vive Tracker.
My future plans include testing VR on more postmarketOS devices, as well as porting games including Overte and the Luanti OpenXR branch. I will also build my own libsurvive compatible trackers using an IMU, an RP2040 and TS4231 sensors. Wireless trackers will use the Nordic Semiconductor nRF52840, which is also used by Smol Slime Trackers and the Crazyradio 2.0."

GNOME Mobile: Still Conquering the Form Factor by @camelCaseNick
"All around the stack things improve, but what are the challenges in GNOME, and most importantly the shell? What is the current state? How did we get here? What are the changes we need to land? How will we achieve converging with upstream? Is there a way for you to get involved? Markus raises interesting questions and pretends to have answers."

Porting Alpine Linux to new architectures by @aelin
"In this presentation, I'll explain what the process of porting Alpine Linux to a new architecture looks like. Porting Alpine Linux to a new architecture is very straightforward, but porting it to completion, including the community repo, is no simple feat. Cross compilation, bootstrapping and weird test cases will get in your way, but there are neat tricks and tools to help you along the way."

The story of Kodiak - The SoC that can do everything by @z3ntu
"This Qualcomm SoC - code-named Kodiak - is used for many use cases. With its SC7280 variant it's used in laptops and was planned to be used in Chromebooks, the SM7325 variant is used in smartphones, QCM6490 is the IoT variant used in plenty of SBCs and some smartphones, and perhaps we'll see yet another new variant of this chip?
Let's talk about the history of this chip, with a strong eye on Linux kernel development and device bringup."

Rebuilding the build farm: a new package builder architecture by @fossdd , @ptrc
"Today, we still rely on Lua scripts written over ten years ago to build all of our repositories. But Alpine has grown a lot since then: we have many new architectures (one of which, riscv64, is unbelievably slow...), and a single failing test in one package still blocks the upload of all other, unrelated packages. TL;DR: the builders are very often the bottleneck of Alpine development.
To meet our needs today, I'll propose some requirements I think a new architecture should have, along with an idea for what it could look like. Hopefully we can find some interested people and build the "Next Gen. Alpine-Builder"™."

10 years of postmarketOS by @ollieparanoid
"Imagine all the things you could accomplish in ten years if each week you spend a significant amount of your time on them. You could choose a small scope project and drive it to perfection. You could probably make a lot of money, live large, get a big house and five cars. Instead of that yours truly spent his time on his favorite Linux Mobile distribution. This talk gives a look back from how it all started until now, the technical changes postmarketOS went through, how our community got bigger and better and how the mainstream operating systems got worse over time. I'll already spoil the conclusion here, what we have been building together is more meaningful than ever in 2026, I'm proud of what we have accomplished and I'm so happy I didn't do something else instead!"

Five Lessons from Building Alpine Linux for 20 Years by @ncopa
"Alpine Linux began as a small, diskless distribution for routers and security appliances. It was not designed for containers, cloud computing or smartphones, yet it eventually found its way into all three.
In this talk, Alpine’s founder looks back at five lessons from more than twenty years of building and maintaining the project: how real constraints can produce unexpected opportunities, why simplicity must include the contributor experience, how being different can pay off, why neglected work eventually becomes technical debt, and why a friendly community is part of a project’s technical quality and security.
This is not a complete history or a celebration of everything Alpine got right. It is a candid account of decisions that worked, mistakes that became apparent years later, and what it takes for an open-source project to survive beyond its original purpose."

Heads up for postmarketOS edge users: we'll soon roll out merging /usr/sbin into /usr/bin.
"Switching to this new layout requires no manual intervention. All new images will be automatically bin-merged and existing installs will have it happen
during normal upgrades. Existing paths that point to /sbin/ or /usr/sbin/ will continue working through symlinks to /usr/bin/"
Thanks to @justsoup and everybody who helped testing!

Turns out we don't have any postmarketOS device port for x86 except in the archived category, and therefore we don't have any users on this architecture. So we are now dropping x86 (not x86_64!) from postmarketOS edge to save some build times. It never was in a stable version.

News for qcom devices in postmarketOS edge: we switched all remaining users of the userspace pd-mapper (protection domain mapper) daemon to the in-kernel implementation.
