things you can't do on a 6,000 dollar macos machine that you can do on a 150 dollar linux machine:

* iommu + virtualization so you can isolate usb devices for things like hdmi capture, impossible on a mac because isochronous transfer is impossible
* setting the uvc video quality on capture
* flash a four dollar esp32 device over usb
* pass through a raw device to qemu without jumping through a bunch of hoops
* mount good foreign file systems like zfs

dozens of others I'm forgetting. A ridiculous number of things I have to keep a linux laptop around to do because the macbook pro simply cannot do it.
