So is learning a new skill not something worth pursuing? Learning to knit or baking a soufflé is also hard, yet people still do it even though they could buy a jumper or go to a restaurant.

And if someone learns HTML and CSS, maybe they'll love it, and they learn PHP, SQL or JavaScript. I did, and it has brought me so much joy.

@neatnik For a programmer, he seems oddly dismissive of the joy of learning a new skill and figuring out how something works.
