@jan it's the tone of some the replies. i can't bear social media tbh. i'll probably stick around at some level, but won't engage and just block. best way to follow pagecord is the weekly email :)

@raeubervater @markhysted really? how odd. you can change the class names, maybe that will fix it? which ad blocker? I use ublock lite and it's fine

@olly @markhysted @olly Site looks sleek 👍 But the BTT button gets eaten by the adblocker. I fought with that already on my bear blog. A lot of them don’t like the naming back-to-top naming.

@olly I've finally read up on this. I'm not entirely sure how the discussion got so heated and personal. Self-hosting can be a headache and for the vast majority of users, it's never just uploading some HTML.
I really enjoyed following Pagecord's progress here. I hope the Fediverse doesn't lose you.

@olly I'm happy to have you here.
I saw your post and I get your reasoning. I'm happy to use your service. I did html since 2000 and played with css, js as well and while I could do it all myself, I'm happy that I don't. I already have more than enough going on. And while there is a risk with Pagecord eventually going away, everything important which I post is hosted in Obsidian so I'll be able to restart if ever needed.
Take some time if you need to.
Thanks for your platform and keep building.
Hope to still catch you here.

A Quick note for #MastodonAppUK , #FediMedi and #Universeodon folks - I've got some maintenance coming up next Tuesday where the sites will be down for a short amount of time to allow me to apply some updates and do some maintenance to our underlying hardware. The actual outage shouldn't be more than 30 or so mins and I'll probably get some of the pre-work done before with no down time to keep things running quickly on the day.
Updates will be posted on https://status.atlas-media.co.uk/schedules/36

Nginx Dark Mode Support For Error Pages Remains Elusive
In early 2025 I wrote about the upstream Nginx web server rejecting dark mode support for its error pages on the basis of wanting to keep the default error pages simple and developers arguing the extra HTML tag for the dark mode styling as superfluous. Following a lot of public backlash for being against offering native dark mode handling by default, Nginx stakeholders were polled and largely came out in favor of s…
