5/4 p.s.: If one stance, even if held by minority, leads to extinction, then either:
1) We are able to somehow deal with it and prevent the catastrophe => good for us
2) We fail to deal with it => we die off => good for the Universe (we leave the scene, and somebody/something else can try achieve better results)
So, I guess I'm optimist? :) :/ :\ :( :)

4/4 But at the end, one needs to do some work, not just voicing opinions expecting work from others.
So what does that mean to me? Well, as said above: given differences in opinion, I'm now loosing portion of the effort of others I've relied upon so far. So now I will have more work maintaining my computers the way I like/need. E.g. same as in '90, etc. Nothing new.
Do some changes to achieve progress, observe results, adjust to improve benefits and diminish negatives. Rinse and repeat.

3/4 So, if I narrow this down back to software, or specifically #FOSS / #OpenSource, we can:
1) Go back to roots: we once again reevaluate what is important to whom: "AI / no AI" is similar as "Open Source / FLOSS"
2) Regroup
E.g. I guess, among other things, we will see new Linux distros popping up or splitting away based on AI "tastes / opinions / arguments".
In biology, diversity is good (typically as hedge against risks). Same for opinions.

2/4 Physically, that is hard, because for example:
1) Earth is big but still finite
2) There are 8 billions of us
3) 1+2 => very little space for going elsewhere and be left alone
4) "Small group" might be quite big, but if dispersed over whole Earth, hard to see frequently and work with each other
But as long as we have Internet (or some other, free as in speech, network) even small groups can work quite well over the distances.
Peter Hanecak@phanecak@mastodon.social (2026-08-30 18:42:45)
The civilization, or "economy" (more recent and currently trendy term), relies on division of labor and cooperation. So, the typical (and only) fallback to others not meeting ones expectation is seclusion, e.g. withdrawal into smaller group which still have compatible expectations.
If we do not want to be "Nazis", putting our needs an opinions above needs and opinions of others, then that is the only way. (Plus continued dialog but also firm stance.) 1/4
