underproofed ganbold@ganbold@sns1.hydranlab.com (2026-09-23 23:23:47) a video from a small creator (but bigger than me) reminds me the reason I like internet over irl. disclaimer, you can label me anything toward this opinion, and it will make my hypothesis much stronger anyway

anyone on internet of course lived in irl. but not all irl people are on internet. might be true 15 years ago, but not valid for most of people for today.

irl, if your surrounding is sucks, what you can do about it? if you are an adult, you can simply just move away to different place, to different city. for kids, there are no other options, unless you are willing to leave your family

I discovered internet, I discovered people with same hobby with me, I discovered people who actually listen to me and I can talk back to them. there are no better place than this. because not all people are gifted with lovely and supportive environment, at least there is an alternative they can choose.

idk like how many trauma, small trauma actually compared to much more traumas I saw over the internet or various works. but still trauma is trauma. easier to burry something beneath the ground rather than fight it.

that is why like I never want to do the same to others. I dislike people, hate people, but doesn't mean I have the right to do something to them. do whatever you want, I just want to have my own small and cozy peace.

Do you have a cool project that is somewhat related to postmarketOS and/or Alpine Linux? Then this is the perfect opportunity to give a short lightning talk about it! ---Attachments--- image: https://cache.treehouse.systems/media_attachments/files/117/320/438/970/103/926/original/626608e53347ac68.png

"This Qualcomm SoC - code-named Kodiak - is used for many use cases. With its SC7280 variant it's used in laptops and was planned to be used in Chromebooks, the SM7325 variant is used in smartphones, QCM6490 is the IoT variant used in plenty of SBCs and some smartphones, and perhaps we'll see yet another new variant of this chip?

Let's talk about the history of this chip, with a strong eye on Linux kernel development and device bringup." ---Attachments--- image: https://cache.treehouse.systems/media_attachments/files/117/320/435/152/102/631/original/96f8041ae3ca4324.png

"Today, we still rely on Lua scripts written over ten years ago to build all of our repositories. But Alpine has grown a lot since then: we have many new architectures (one of which, riscv64, is unbelievably slow...), and a single failing test in one package still blocks the upload of all other, unrelated packages. TL;DR: the builders are very often the bottleneck of Alpine development.

To meet our needs today, I'll propose some requirements I think a new architecture should have, along with an idea for what it could look like. Hopefully we can find some interested people and build the "Next Gen. Alpine-Builder"™." ---Attachments--- image: https://cache.treehouse.systems/media_attachments/files/117/320/429/739/337/985/original/03710441f7753428.png

"Imagine all the things you could accomplish in ten years if each week you spend a significant amount of your time on them. You could choose a small scope project and drive it to perfection. You could probably make a lot of money, live large, get a big house and five cars. Instead of that yours truly spent his time on his favorite Linux Mobile distribution. This talk gives a look back from how it all started until now, the technical changes postmarketOS went through, how our community got bigger and better and how the mainstream operating systems got worse over time. I'll already spoil the conclusion here, what we have been building together is more meaningful than ever in 2026, I'm proud of what we have accomplished and I'm so happy I didn't do something else instead!" ---Attachments--- image: https://cache.treehouse.systems/media_attachments/files/117/320/425/406/527/520/original/347a5a5aef4138a0.png

"Alpine Linux began as a small, diskless distribution for routers and security appliances. It was not designed for containers, cloud computing or smartphones, yet it eventually found its way into all three.

In this talk, Alpine’s founder looks back at five lessons from more than twenty years of building and maintaining the project: how real constraints can produce unexpected opportunities, why simplicity must include the contributor experience, how being different can pay off, why neglected work eventually becomes technical debt, and why a friendly community is part of a project’s technical quality and security.

This is not a complete history or a celebration of everything Alpine got right. It is a candid account of decisions that worked, mistakes that became apparent years later, and what it takes for an open-source project to survive beyond its original purpose." ---Attachments--- image: https://cache.treehouse.systems/media_attachments/files/117/320/414/436/289/235/original/6f04daa2c46fcd05.png

It's available to read on the mailing list to subscribers and in the web-based archive at https://www.openwall.com/lists/musl/2026/09/21/2

These should all be pretty close to the form they'll be merged in mainline after an upcoming bugfix release.
