A nitpick, SCTP doesn't run on top UDP, but IP directly.
It is widely used on telco, but Internet middle boxes usually mess up with it. Something on top of UDP would be more reliable.

It does help, makes it clear its a pretty general tech. What's the theory for where its supposed to be applied? Like, if it were mature and fully usable right now, what would be a decent example application you'd expect someone to want to build with it?

@bkuhn Thing is, even though you could be at odds with Raymond or with Red Hat, you could still view them as objective allies because in practice we were all contributing to the free software commons that we saw as artifacts for user empowerment.
But that’s no longer the case: big tech has been freeriding, and now they’re building their ideal of free software without free software activists—destroying the commons we built as they move forward.

@bkuhn I'm kinda gobsmacked by this TBH. I agree that it is reasonable to use proprietary tech to build non-proprietary, etc. (of course) but I've always known you to have a pretty high bar against using proprietary tech.
All other considerations aside - and that's a lot of considerations - ISTM that there's nothing Claude offers that you can't do with your brain, though slower.
And Anthropic's moral compass is... um, lacking. It makes some of the late 90s and early 2000s tech shenanigans almost seem quaint.
This kinda broke my brain, really. I wouldn't have been shocked to hear that you'd tinkered with Claude just to see whether its output was violating licenses, etc. But kinda shocked to find you'd actually use its output in a codebase.

@dlakelan The tl;dr is that OCapN is a secure RPC protocol. It's notable in that it uses the capability security model and is naturally asynchronous. Does this help?

@dthompson Can there be only one peer per program? If there are multiple vats on the other node, could they use the same QUIC connection but different streams on it? That could delay running out of ports when communicating with many people. Consumer-OS’es can have quite low concurrent connection limits.
Why do you see zero roundtrip handshakes as minor? (especially if you don’t have to wait for a response)
One advantage of QUIC is that is doesn’t stand out, since HTTP3 serves as cover traffic.
