Reply to @silverpill@mitra.social Uriel Fanelli (on Aktor)@uriel@bbs.keinpfusch.net (2026-06-14 23:41:02) @silverpill the purpose of this madness is to force the whole fediverse to be "Mastodon". To me, developing Aktor,  I will decide that unspecified activities belong to type "gibberish" and create a specific timeline for gibberish. That's it.

>Usually it's an extra database query. With AcceptFeatureRequest, you can apply side effects right away.

If you are receiving Accept for something, there's probably a check somewhere if the Accepted thing exists to you anyway. Not doing so in the context of this FEP would result in adding a possibly non-existent Object to a Collection. If you store AP Activities/Objects as JSON in your DB the type comes for free with the existence check. If your AP data is more normalized, then yes you would have to join tables using indexes, or possibly re-query the DB to include the type.

Reject might need the same checking as Accept or might not depending on the target.

Reply to @Profpatsch@mastodon.xyz silverpill@silverpill@mitra.social (2026-06-14 23:19:39) @Profpatsch @grindhold @sabrinkmann I support vendor prefixes.

Reply to @julian@activitypub.space silverpill@silverpill@mitra.social (2026-06-14 23:19:08) @julian @raphael With Accept, you need to resolve Accept.object in order to know what side effects to apply. Usually it's an extra database query. With AcceptFeatureRequest, you can apply side effects right away.

Reply to @grindhold@23.social Beady Belle Fanchannel@Profpatsch@mastodon.xyz (2026-06-14 23:14:39) @grindhold @silverpill @sabrinkmann I think we should at least use a system that’s somewhat resistant to semantic overload, like CSS vendor prefixes.

e.g. add "flohmarkt:foobar" as a new field, and when it receives an FEP you can drop the prefix. So “on the edge” software can start by using the prefixed field, and then slowly migrate to unprefixed FEP once that’s there.

Reply to @phnt@fluffytail.org silverpill@silverpill@mitra.social (2026-06-14 23:09:40) @phnt @mariusor I am okay with this option https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/fep-5624-per-object-reply-control-policies/2723/65

But the subtype is not always determined by object. Sometimes it's target or another property. Nowadays my preference is 1.

Reply to @silverpill@mitra.social julian@julian@activitypub.space (2026-06-14 23:01:10) I'd argue that #2 (more efficient processing) is not the case, and is highly dependent on implementation.

Reply to @silverpill@mitra.social marius@mariusor@metalhead.club (2026-06-14 22:59:23) @silverpill hypothetically the last one is the one I find the most consistent with the way I interpreted the Activity vocabulary spec, and the way I implemented the ActivityPub processing state machine.

Reply to @grishka@mastodon.social dansup@dansup@mastodon.social (2026-06-14 22:40:49) @grishka but that's exactly the point I was trying to make, algorithms can be dangerous yeah, but like I said, Loops has a fixed recommendation feed limit that resets daily, preventing doomscrolling.

We're both right, but it's not really fair to compare Loops to TikTok as they have way more dark patterns and an algorithm that is more addictive.

Also, random question, but have you considered getting a dog?

Reply to @silverpill@mitra.social silverpill@silverpill@mitra.social (2026-06-14 22:39:14) @mariusor What kind of side-effect hint would you prefer?

1. Specialized activity name

{
"type": "AcceptFeatureRequest"
"object": "https://social.example/request"
}

2. Additional property

{
"type": "Accept",
"object": "https://social.example/request",
"objectType": "FeatureRequest"
}

3. Embedded object (possibly partial):

{
"type": "Accept",
"object": {
"id": "https://social.example/request",
"type": "FeatureRequest"
}
}
