@ArneBab the (L)GPL is not a protection against LLMs. they do not tend to generate verbatim copies these days and the companies behind these LLMs claim that the output is not a derived work of the training set and the US/EU legal systems have not settled that matter. I haven't looked hard but I didn't see anything that looked clearly lifted from hoot verbatim.

@dthompson I also checked and at least functions sound like it’s clearly different.

That said: the (L)GPL is no sure protection against LLMs, because the legal situation isn’t clear yet. But without a copyleft license, the situation is clear: regardless of the outcomes of legal processes, LLM output built on MIT or similar can be proprietary.

@ArneBab I'm skeptical that copyleft can provide any meaningful protection here but we shall see, I guess.
