someone should give spritely one of those 3 million dollar donations because we're about to have an end-to-end encrypted relay network that will enable self-hosting all sorts of shit at home and it's gonna be time to start building little apps. imagine a fediverse where your identity and data are both decoupled from where people send messages to you.

I've always been excited by what we're working on but @tsyesika is absolutely killing it on the e2ee relay right now. @cwebber had already developed the federated relay but it lacked e2ee. thanks to NLnet funding that is being addressed by layering on the Noise protocol. it would be great to have an internet that didn't need relays but so many computers are behind NATs and then of course there's a bajillion phones and tablets out there. the e2ee relay will make OCapN and Goblins practical to use on the internet we have right now!

@dthompson Lately I've been thinking about distributed Emacs that lets you pair in a peer to peer fashion but doesn't require cloud infrastructure like Zed. Doesn't have to be limited to text. e.j. Peer to peer video. Although trickier it should be possible to leverage capabilities to share a terminal session with limited permissions
