Reply to @dthompson@toot.cat ocdtrekkie@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social (2026-10-14 02:58:13) @dthompson I mean, I would argue that if everyone who currently subscribes switched to the vibe-coded slop-replacements of Adobe and Microsoft's product suites and collapsed those two companies, that would probably be an ethical and environmental net positive. (And an overall reduction in the funding and use of LLMs.)

I won't claim authority on what level of penance justifies the use of AI to solve a problem, but I think there's probably some sort of math equation to it.

Reply to @ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social dave@dthompson@toot.cat (2026-10-14 02:47:56) @ocdtrekkie I interpreted that paragraph as promotion of running vibecoded apps. there is no ethical way to use LLMs because their externalities are just so extreme.

No matter how red your municipality, your vote matters, and it matters to keep the bigots like Whatley out of political office.

Reply to @null@llun.dev Chee Aun 🤔@cheeaun@mastodon.social (2026-10-14 02:41:02) @null yeah DDOS was already a thing, but now will be even more 📈

As for money… there's XCash from X, and "agentic payments" from Stripe and whole bunch of startups (YC backed *a lot* of those agentic whatever startups). They're already anticipating all these things 😅

Reply to @cheeaun@mastodon.social Maythee A.@null@llun.dev (2026-10-14 02:33:57) @cheeaun@mastodon.social I think concert tickets are already DDOS by bots in the past. So no different I guess.

That chore price drop stuffs or grocery buying maybe can be a use case, but I'm wonder do people really trust all this bot to handle money stuffs. 🤔 I guess they still need you confirmation (or manual credit card, bank verification step) manually.

Reply to @null@llun.dev Chee Aun 🤔@cheeaun@mastodon.social (2026-10-14 02:29:21) @null there are some useful "chore" stuffs e.g. keeping track of pricing of an item on Amazon then auto-notify you when the price drops, then safeguard prompt you before actually buying it. This is probably the "good" use-case.

The "bad" use-case would be someone using the bot to spam buy tickets for a concert and DDOS the website 🙈

Reply to @cheeaun@mastodon.social Maythee A.@null@llun.dev (2026-10-14 02:21:57) @cheeaun@mastodon.social It sounds a bit too crazy to me to give those money stuffs, or life stuffs to bot doing thing for you somehow. Although, if they do my chore stuffs for me I will totally let them do it 🙈

Reply to @dthompson@toot.cat ocdtrekkie@ocdtrekkie@mastodon.social (2026-10-14 02:18:13) @dthompson All I'm saying is we can do it safely, figuring out how to do it ethically is still an exercise for the reader.

Reply to @null@llun.dev Chee Aun 🤔@cheeaun@mastodon.social (2026-10-14 02:17:48) @null they are more like "assistants" instead of coding, so the target audience is for the general public. Like tell the bot to buy food for you 🤣

openclaw/hermes runs on your own machine. grok bot, dots, muse "rents" a machine for you.

Reply to @cheeaun@mastodon.social Maythee A.@null@llun.dev (2026-10-14 02:12:52) @cheeaun@mastodon.social I kind of not sure what's the difference between openclaw/hermes and usual chat yet 🤔

But everyone is just going after openclaw/hermes but with better UX and more hype. Grok bot, Muse, Dots…
