Thanks to your suggestions, we now have a new service: #WriteFreely , a publishing/blogging platform that runs on #ActivityPub.
This new service is available at https://write.theatl.social - users at any membership level may now create a blog.
Logging in is easy: your existing theATL.social Mastodon account logs you in.
I've (publicly) forked the WriteFreely repo to continue developing on additional features...first of which is easy adding of pictures and other media. I'm open to suggestions as to what should be worked on next.

#FediHood warns you if you pick a small town and suggests the nearest larger one. It is a privacy measure, since few people share a small place, but you can ignore the suggestion and keep your choice.

We just released Mastodon 4.6.6, 4.5.16 and 4.4.23.
They contain minor bug fixes and we advise server administrators to update when they can.

#fedihood attachments and avatars for non-local posts now displaying in #fedicat, the image urls just have a path so need to prepend the local host (was already doing this for some #neodb links)

one thing to watch out for when supporting #fedihood with a #mastodon api client is that remote account IDs are in the form of a url, so you need to percent encode it when incorporating into an endooint

Here are the "plain English" guidelines:
— Any servers that want to use the Mastodon name and logo in their branding (not domain!) should seek express written permission from Mastodon, which is granted on a case-by-case basis.
— The word Mastodon should never be used in the main part of a server’s domain (a subdomain is allowed).** We will not retroactively enforce this on **servers created before May 13, 2026.**
— Existing servers using the Mastodon name in their domain must include this disclaimer: “This [server/site] is not affiliated with or endorsed by Mastodon GmbH or Mastodon Inc.”
— Any fair use mentions or derivative usage of the Mastodon name (such as mstdn) should include the disclaimer.

Most of us run instances on a shoe string for our own gratification and the benefit of others, but unfortunately that's not a recipe for growth. If you want to address growth you need to look at how to generate funding and that conversation ends up at sponsorship. How doe we navigate that responsibly? I added two flags that indicate whether a group is private, semi-private or public: canFollow and canParticipate. These flags are similar to ones used in interactionPolicy pattern but I think interaction policies don't scale well.

I built #FediHood on the #Mastodon API, so you can connect your account with any Mastodon-compatible app, such as #Fedilab.
Fedilab will soon support the extra features at the heart of the project: finding people nearby by city via #OSM, and using #E2EE DMs.

- Added admin section to the web UI. It includes the list of local accounts (similar to the output of list-accounts command).
- When a server administrator deletes a local post through admin UI, the author of the post gets a notification.
