I've been working on a FEP draft for the past few days: FEP-22cd Attributing translations.
Hackers' Pub already machine-translates articles, but I want authors to be able to publish their own translations too, and let organizations split the work across members. Once you do that, Activity Streams doesn't give you much to work with. attributedTo names an author, not a translator. Nothing distinguishes a language a human translated from one an AI produced. And nothing says whether a translation still matches the current text or was written against an older version of the article.
Schema.org already has translator, translationOfWork, and inLanguage for exactly this, so the FEP mostly reuses those instead of minting new vocabulary. I had to decide whether to give each language its own object, linked back to the original, or keep everything on one object the way contentMap already does. Splitting it looked cleaner at first, but it also means spreading replies and reactions across separate posts for each translation. I don't want adding a translation to split the conversation.
I kept everything on one object, using contentMap for the text in each language. The draft adds a translations property to record who translated each version and whether it was translated by a human, generated by a machine, or generated by a machine and reviewed by a human. A timestamp lets you tell whether a translation still matches the current text, without publishing the server's private edit history.
You can discuss it on SocialHub or in the draft PR. If you run anything that touches multilingual content, I'd like to hear where this breaks.

Lately we get signup requests from AI agents. Not even real people creating AI music. We have been refusing them to sign-up on open.audio. We want to listen to music made by humans and support their work and artistic sensibility. With Funkwhale we want to support real musicians and we don't want support the waste of resources for AI generated slop. We wanted to be transparent about this and know what our users think. What is your opinion?

Dropping the Google version of the app was a pleasure. I could finally remove all their restrictions:
- Register an account with #Fedilab
- Donation links
- Hard-coded filters for #PeerTube containing "download" and "YouTube"
The APK that I attach to release notes is signed with the same key, so Play users can install it over their current version.
I know Google is the best way to be known, but it has a price I am no longer willing to pay.

I fixed a privacy bug in #HolosDiscover. If you asked not to appear in search through your bio, it did not always respect that because the #NoIndex tag in bios had a bug and the bot did not read profile fields.
In some cases discovery also fell back to the discoverable flag, which is now removed (that flag is about accounts, not posts).
Everything is fixed and I also cleaned up what was already stored. The database is clean. Sorry for that.

We just released Mastodon v4.7.2, v4.6.8, v4.5.18 and v4.4.25.
In addition to several bugfixes, they disable HEIF processing to avoid a known critical security issues. We encourage server administrators to update as soon as possible.

Crystal 1.3 is out. If you’ve adjusted Settings > Accessibility > Text Size (new in tvOS 27), this update has fixes for text getting cut off or not resizing properly.
Also:
- Crystal now displays animated custom emoji (can be disabled in settings)
- Fixed a bug where the scroll indicator could get stuck during slideshows and not disappear
- Miscellaneous other bug fixes
