You can now follow conversations and get notified of new replies. Lists and followed threads can be added as tabs in the bottom navigation.
It also brings several fixes: muted and blocked profiles no longer show in Discover results, bookmarks are more reliable, and reading position is kept in list timelines.

Mastodon 4.6 is already available in beta though, which your instance seems to have installed. This is why you're seeing some new unstyled elements.

Today I deployed a new version of #Vernissage on vernissage.photos with multilingual support!
The app is now available in English US, English GB, French, Finnish, German, and Polish.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped review and translate French, Finnish, and German. More languages are in progress, and once the next translations and fixes are ready, another release will follow.

To facilitate content moderation, you can create lists of watched words. Any comment containing a word from one of these lists is automatically tagged, and video makers can choose to block these comments or moderate them on a case-by-case basis.

Following threads will be available in #HolosSocial 1.10.0. You can subscribe to a thread and get notified when new replies arrive, even from accounts you do not follow. It works with standard #ActivityPub activities by sending a Follow targeting a post, with a polling fallback for servers that do not support it yet.

I tried to implement the "standard" ActivityPub #C2S API in Mitra.
It's an interesting exercise, but I am not sure if I'll ever enable it by default. Permitting clients to publish arbitrary JSON is equivalent to allowing them to publish unsanitized HTML. This may be acceptable if you're an admin on a single-user instance, but it is a really stupid thing to do when there are multiple users.
Although it might be possible to validate activities using strict JSON schemas, that would require a lot of work. You may as well create your own API that will have none of those issues.
FEP-ae97 API is also tricky to implement, but at least it offers a genuine advantage over regular REST APIs: nomadic identity. Also, its security is more straightforward because portable actors and objects are namespaced by DIDs.
