Yes, I think this is very promising, and somewhat already functional today. It is a flavour of @Bonfire that is dedicated to science. I see it somewhere between late Twitter and ResearchGate, but ethical, self-hosted, owned and controlled by the scientific community, and, most important connected to the Fediverse and thus Mastodon.
