@jupiter_rowland @caohuak Blockchain technology became victim of its own success. It attracted so many gamblers, venture capitalists and scammers that they crowded out the cypherpunks who created the thing in the first place. Almost every crypto project has been captured and exploited. The only ones who still carry the torch are those who are unpalatable to normies because of associations with criminal activity.

I like Decentraland, and spent quite some time exploring their world. It is not about selling NFTs, although it is true that NFTs were integrated into the world. The idea of tokenizing land didn't work well and might be the main reason Decentraland is dying, but I think that using NFTs for wearables makes a lot of sense.

I’m working on handling OAuth token expiry as part of #ktistec Mastodon API support. Is my understanding that Mastodon issues OAuth tokens with no expiration correct?!?

I think that Mastodon API implementers should collaborate to develop a standardised solution. There was an idea of Mastodon API Enhancement Proposals, but unfortunately it didn't take off.

I love how with #mastodon (and #activitypub) I can have a feed that covers video, micrologging, and images in one place. This is why I have chosen it as my main platform to post on and I bridge to others like #bluesky

@ex_06 Fediverse has a similar market for Mastodon API / Lemmy API clients. The cost of switching is small, so better clients tend to be more popular.

@julian @evan @technical-discussion I proposed FEP-844e as an alternative to double-knocking, it should work well for POST requests because normally you fetch an actor before sending activities to its inbox. Several early adopters of RFC 9421 already implemented this FEP (including WordPress).

@linos That wouldn't improve compatibility because fedi services either reject multi-typed objects or discard anything but the first type. We don't even have a specification that describes how multi-typing is supposed to work.
I mean, I agree that multi-typing could be useful in theory. But duck typing is much better, and doesn't require buy-in from implementers.

FEP-8b32 (Object Integrity Proofs) is getting updated: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/pulls/839
I added two new requirements:
- Objects identified using fragment IDs SHOULD NOT have integrity proofs. It is enough to secure the top-level document.
- Verifiers SHOULD ignore proofs that use unsupported algorithms and verification methods. This requirement provides forward compatibility, which is important because sooner or later we will need to use different algorithms.

on the atmosphere, there is an incentive to implement better functionalities because any user can change service at zero cost; on the fediverse i feel like it's the opposite: there is no real incentive in embracing new software because it's more a risk than anything else and it's not like you can bring your own instance data on another software without costs.

@Profpatsch @hongminhee I'm all for simplification. There can only be one serialization format, and Fediverse has already settled on JSON. Attempts to change de-facto standard to JSON-LD are extremely counter-productive.
