@cwebber remember how Bluesky talked so much about their design goal of avoiding the confusing situation in fedi where you see different parts of the conversation and different like and follower accounts depending on what instance you're on?
hahahahaha ...

If you're on littleFedi, do you know how to stop a feed from auto-updating? It's driving me nuts. I'm trying to read a post and it disappears because multiple new posts shove it down. Is there something in the settings that I'm missing?
I should add that littleFedi isn't Mastodon so I don't have that setting under Appearance.

@textoo ah didn't realise that. I was opening the page on Vivaldi so already can see a play button to start playing. It links to `vivaldi://game/` and once clicked, location bar shows `vivaldi:game` 🤔

" #Meta agreed to pay up to $17 billion in a settlement, putting to rest a trial where dozens of states accused it of deliberately endangering children through their platforms. The company behind #Facebook and #Instagram agreed to implement digital guardrails for minors and is asking other social platforms to do the same. Geoff Bennett discussed more with Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser."

Bezos is another data point that shows why billionaires should not exist. I didn’t always think this. Decades of watching the overwhelming number of them be useless at best, malevolent in the middle, and cartoonishly sociopathic at the worst end, led me to this conclusion.

@mookie Zuck is the controlling shareholder. I assume Meta corporate bylaws prevents the board from being an effective check on his power. When he falls, he won't be able to blame anyone but himself.

This is the first genuinely operational littleFedi instance.
It has been online since 1st July, is single-user (just me), and runs on a Raspberry Pi Zero W powered by NetBSD, directly on its SD card.
It consumes just under 1W.
Its database is this size:
-rw------- 1 little wheel 109289472 Aug 26 15:14 littlefedi.db
That is, just a little over 100 MB. Yes, MB.
Its average CPU load is extremely low.
It is perfectly usable both from the web interface and from Mastodon API apps.
I have 179 followers and 169 followings, and it doesn't bat an eye.
I promise myself to use it more, and I will.
You don't need Big Tech to communicate with others.
You don't need an expensive data center to exist online.
Because we are people, and the bits are just extensions of our voice.
EDIT: littleFedi allows to transform posts into blog posts, having its own SSG (Static Site Generator). The one generated by this post is reachable by clicking here.

I have been on the Fediverse since 2017, and I am impressed by how it has evolved, with all the amazing projects around where everyone can find their safe place.
We will never agree on everything, but I really think we hold something that can't be taken back. The power to users.
Now that I work directly on ActivityPub projects, I really see how free we are.
