New in our online store: the first production batch of the USB Sniffer is finally here.
After a long wait caused by limited component availability, the boards have arrived and all pre-orders are already on their way.
Capture LS, FS and HS USB traffic directly in Wireshark and make USB debugging, protocol analysis and hardware validation much easier. The first batch is limited and moving fast. If demand stays this strong, we'll make the next run bigger.

日本語の辞書を引くと、単科大学は「単一の学部を持つ大学」、総合大学は「複数の学部を持つ大学」で概ね統一されている。
法から見ると、1917年の大学令には
第二条 大学ニハ数個ノ学部ヲ置クヲ常例トス但シ特別ノ必要アル場合ニ於テハ単ニ一個ノ学部ヲ置クモノヲ以テ一大学ト為スコトヲ得
とあり、大学は原則数個の学部を持つ総合大学だった模様。
昭和48年9月29日法律第103号により、
大学には、学部を置くことを常例とする。
と改正され、単科大学も作りやすくなった。

には、単科大学と総合大学の違いは領域が──と書かれているけど、恐らく吉田文の論文「国立大学の類型化」で分類のために作られた概念で、日本語で一般に単科大学、総合大学という言葉が指すものをよく表しているわけではなさそう。

研究社 英語語源ハンドブックから抜粋、要約
オクスフォード大学やケンブリッヂ大学では伝統的にcollegeが集まってuniversityを構成している。
しかし時代の変化により15世紀以降は、collegeはuniversityの中にある小グループとは限らず、ほぼ同じ意味になった。それでも歴史的経緯により小規模な大学 (あるいはアメリカにおいては単科大学) をcollege、大規模な大学をuniversityと表しがち。
三省堂 ウィズダム英和辞典第4版から抜粋
(米) ではcollegeがbachelorの学位を取得する学校であるのに対し, universityは大学院課程も併せ持つ総合大学. またcollegeの方が幅広く, 一般に「大学 (の) 」を意味する語として用いられる
(主に英・カナダ) 専門学校, 各種学校 (義務教育卒業後, 専門知識を学ぶ高等教育機関;

イギリス英語とアメリカ英語の両方で, collegeとは中等学校の卒業後に進学する場所である. イギリスでは, 学業を修めたり特定の技能について訓練を受けたりする場所がcollegeである. アメリカでは、学士の学位を取得するために学業を修める場所がcollegeである. universityでは学士およびそれより高い学位が得られる.
アメリカ英語では, 特に学士の学位を取得するために勉強をする場所としてcollegeをuniversityと同じ意味でよく使う.

Collegeが単科大学でUniversityが総合大学ってイメージだったけど、アメリカだと研究する領域の広さというよりは大学院課程の有無が大きいのか。辞書を見ると単科大学と総合大学の違いが大学院課程の有無みたいに書いてあるけど、日本語だとこれって領域の広さの違いよね。
イギリス・カナダだとCollegeは学士の有無を関係なく中等教育後に行く専門学校系、Universityが所謂学位の出る大学なのか？
