When this post is not ONE but TWO hours old #monsterdon will be the Last Hashtag on the Fedi.
That's right, we're watching The Last Man On Earth, starting Vincent ... but at what Price?
It's streaming free (in the US at least ) on Tubi (see also #MonsterdonAlert for some other links too) , so you can watch along! Or, if you don't want a barrage of out of context toots, you could mute the hashtag. Better yet, you could mute ALL OTHER HASHTAGS for the true Last Hashtag on the Fedi experience!

The bring-up phase of Divine D. Rev. 1.1 is reaching its end. We ported the DMC driver (not upstreamed yet) to be working on the kernel 7.1.0. This enables dynamic DRAM frequency scaling based on workload, helping reduce substantial energy consumption.
The NPU, LoRa and all sensors are working now.
We’ve also cooked up Divine D. Live Monitor, an application that provides a real-time overview of the device’s hardware and OS.
Next topics, soon.

We introduce the first accessory board Acc-DBG Rev 1.0 that pairs with Divine D., allowing debug features and interface expansion to external hardware. The board supports:
- Magnetic and Hot-plug Pogo interface
- Enables Maskrom mode to allow flashing/reading the internal eMMC over USB-C
- USB-to-Serial Port for the System Terminal
- 40-pin exposing several interfaces, including I2C, SPI, GPIOs…
- External aux power supply
- JTAG for SoC and LoRa
- USB2

- VPU acceleration
- Audio codec + Amps (Stereo speakers, dual microphones, earpiece)
- 5.5” AMOLED and HDMI at 1080P
- LTE
- Voice calling
- WIFI and BT
Documentation will soon include further details and test results.

Meet Divine, a GNU/Linux Phone powered by Rockchip’s RK3588S. Divine D. will be our first variant, completely open for development, testing and debugging. It will bring interesting features on-board, from local AI to multi-standard connectivity. We also develop DawnOS, a mobian-based distribution tailored for our hardware, including custom Kernel and device tree.

@bkuhn Thing is, even though you could be at odds with Raymond or with Red Hat, you could still view them as objective allies because in practice we were all contributing to the free software commons that we saw as artifacts for user empowerment.
But that’s no longer the case: big tech has been freeriding, and now they’re building their ideal of free software without free software activists—destroying the commons we built as they move forward.

Clip ideas, not articles.
Clipping an article because it's interesting is basically adding a bookmark so you can go back and read it later.
Clipping the idea it sparked is different. It's a valid reason to bring that idea into your Obsidian vault and develop it further, because it already has some creative momentum.

because one thing that has been bubbling to the surface of consciousness around FOSS type stuff over the last decade or so is that it’s not enough for something to have open licensing and freely available source code if the resources required - technological, biological, and otherwise - are overly cumbersome; that’s not open to you, that’s open to “scale players”.

One gap in the BengalOS image builds was that packages with a higher version number in Debian could accidentally replace packages in BengalOS (unless a developer noticed beforehand) leading to subtle regressions like the #phosh's lock screen taking 10 times longer to lock.
This is now fixed as we track package versions and don't upload now images until this is resolved. The package tracker also gives a nice overview of the versions at play.

@bkuhn I'm kinda gobsmacked by this TBH. I agree that it is reasonable to use proprietary tech to build non-proprietary, etc. (of course) but I've always known you to have a pretty high bar against using proprietary tech.
All other considerations aside - and that's a lot of considerations - ISTM that there's nothing Claude offers that you can't do with your brain, though slower.
And Anthropic's moral compass is... um, lacking. It makes some of the late 90s and early 2000s tech shenanigans almost seem quaint.
This kinda broke my brain, really. I wouldn't have been shocked to hear that you'd tinkered with Claude just to see whether its output was violating licenses, etc. But kinda shocked to find you'd actually use its output in a codebase.
