Implementing and testing ActivityPub on localhost is incredibly painful - if it’s even possible in some cases. I really wish there were a self-hosted service that could simulate other ActivityPub instances, runnable on multiple ports with alias-based addressing. Being able to locally test federation traffic, security scenarios, and edge cases would be amazing. 🫣

Mastodon is not going to allow colored badges anymore, but we are going to keep them in our instance. With this rate of deprecation, we can expect even more forks, but that's OK. Luckily, Mastodon is open source.

I'm in awe of the continued support I have for my fediverse projects (Pixelfed, Loops, FediDB, Fediverse.info + more)
I was feeling pretty bad a few days ago and questioning everything due to financial difficulties, but you reminded me how important these open and ethical alternatives are, and a few of you donated and it means the world to me.

UPDATE: I'm at the #wmhack2026 hackathon this weekend, working on mapping movies from Wikidata to ActivityPub objects. It's not for end users. If you don't like JSON, these URLs won't be for you.
I'll try to make that clear from now on.
It's nice for me to share my progress. If you don't like it or you don't care, please be as respectful to me as you would be to other people on the Fediverse sharing things they made.

@reiver I would agree if we were talking about standards, but FEPs and RFCs are different types of documents. RFCs are literally Requests For Comments.
Organizations that publish standards (like W3C), on the other hand, ought to focus on documenting. When they do inventing, it rarely ends well.
