FEX 2607 Optimizing For Yet-To-Be-Released ARM 256-bit SVE2 Hardware
The FEX Emulator that allows running Linux x86/x86_64 software on ARM64 (AArch64) systems, including the likes of Wine / Valve's Steam Play (Proton) for Windows gaming on ARM, is out with its newest monthly feature release. The Valve-backed project for running x86_64 games and other software on ARM for the upcoming Steam Frame and other more typical ARM Linux systems has been baking more optimizations …

Hello!
This FEP describes how to represent bookmarks in federated bookmark managers. It describes several aspects of them.
Betula was the first one to represent bookmarks like this. Recently I contributed patches to Ties, Omnom and Postmarks so that they federate bookmarks in the same format. Ties and Omnom have it merged, Postmarks not yet.
Quote bookmarks are partially implemented in Betula, with full implementation ongoing.
Folders and document copies are not properly implemented anywhere, and these are mostly thoughts for the future. Should they maybe be collections, linked in a field of the Note?
To get an intuition of how a federated bookmark manager works, see my instance https://links.bouncepaw.com and perhaps interact with @bouncepaw@links.bouncepaw.com.
Would be grateful for feedback!

@apps Vernissage has this. I think in general alt text generators should be treated like translation services installed on mastodon, may have nothing or libretranslate or deepl..., and the user can decide whether or not to use it. Ideally an instance would document/advertise what it's using - I think mastodon instance info just indicates whether it has translation and what languages, but it does return the name of the service along with the translation, so I include that in my translations.

The only service being abused on my server is the translation one with #LibreTranslate, so I am going to introduce an API key that will discard a lot of bots.

Happy July 4 to all of my friends! Remember to be conscious of the effects of fireworks and the danger they pose. Fireworks are not advised for dry areas during the current heat wave, and North Carolina is one such area. Please be safe and exercise caution.

I've got a report about Mastodon v4.7.0-alpha.1 not federating with Mitra. Can anybody confirm this?
They recently merged FEP-8b32 signature verification, that might be relevant. All Mitra activities are signed

@ocdtrekkie yeah I'm not excited about that either. I wish one of the big companies would just make a truly mini truck with a 6' bed.

@dthompson I am extremely not excited about the concept of buying a car company's first ever car which may or may not be the start of a longstanding brand. I don't want to own a car that outlived it's manufacturer.

@dthompson Either would probably be satisfactory for my needs, the Telo sounds nice because I *normally* do not need to move a full sheet of plywood, but... you know, stuff happens. (In my case, it's a sheet of drywall, usually.)
The biggest thing for me is that I have had my car for well over a decade now because it's reliable and easily serviceable by almost anyone. I'm really hoping by the time I have to replace my RAV4 that either of these companies has a reputation built up.
dave@dthompson@toot.cat (2026-07-05 02:51:11)
Been going down a bit of a kei truck rabbit hole and wishing you could buy something in that form factor but electric in the US. I don't know why the only 2 (as far as I know) electric mini trucks in development in the US are not fully embracing the kei truck design and capitalizing on the trend with is part aesthetics and part practicality.
The Slate has a classic US truck shape which wastes space in the front and thus it only has a 5' bed despite only having a 2 seater cab. Worse, the bed width is only 42" so you cannot easily fit a standard 8x4 sheet of plywood which seems like an obvious use case to support if the truck is intended to actually be used as a truck.
Then there's the Telo MT1 which has more of a kei truck shape. Their marketing materials explicitly say it can fit a sheet of plywood, however that requires some removable partition to increase the bed length because they chose a 5 seat cab. Feels more like truck cosplay than a practical vehicle.

Some really interesting divergences in @ricci’ hashtag tool, with a semi popular tech nerd instance as the medium and my home of #SocialCoop as the smol:
https://tag-federation.online/#tag=caturday&servers=mastodon.social,infosec.exchange,social.coop - Caturday broadly as visible here as on infosec.exchange, both being a sizable majority of m.s. Similar for DogsOfMastodon.
https://tag-federation.online/#tag=throwbackThursday&servers=mastodon.social,infosec.exchange,social.coop - ThrowbackThursday enjoys almost perfect replication on infosec, yet almost nothing on social.coop!
https://tag-federation.online/#tag=TransRights&servers=mastodon.social,infosec.exchange,social.coop - trans rights looks more like the animals hashtags than the nostalgia one, but with a bit more of a local to me dropoff.
Already wondering what kinds of pseudo-research one could do here re: what categories of hashtags have broader reach, and how fast the drop off is on smaller instances.
