I've updated the section describing the authentication of embedded objects in FEP-fe34 (Origin-based security model):

It now covers the case where a signed embedded object is attributed to another local actor. That happens in federated groups and conversation containers where signed activities may be wrapped in Announce or Add activities.
Previously, the recommendation was to reject such activities when submitted via C2S API. Now the FEP recommends authenticating embedded objects (e.g. by looking up their IDs).
Another important change: anonymous objects are not ownerless anymore. Such object has the same owner as its parent object. It also inherits origin from its parent object, though that follows from the definition.

I've moved to a new instance and thought it might be a good idea for a new introduction.
I'm an old-school Linux user (30+ years) and just getting back into the BSDs. FreeBSD, specifically, but I'm interested in learning about all of them! I'm a former Unix Hardware Engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation, the best company I ever worked for. I miss that job every single day. Over the years, I've worked with Unix in the hardware space, Unix support, a bit of development, and even Information Security. I was laid off a few years ago from an IT job and have had a hard time finding new work. I think it's because of my age, but I gave up caring a year or so ago. I'm now working for a non-profit. I enjoy the work but do miss working in the IT industry. At nearly 60 years old, not sure if I'll ever have the chance to return to IT.
I'm a bicycle commuter and public transit user and advocate. I'm not a fan of cars but understand that here in the US, it's hard not to have one since our cities have been rebuilt around the car. I wish more funding was put into better and safer pedestrian, bike, and public transit. I'll probably talk a bit about that in my posts.
I've been vegan and an animal rights advocate for more than 30 years.
I'm also not a fan of AI for all of the horrible ethical reasons. I could go into all of the reasons I'm no fan, but that would take a long blog post and I don't want to put you all to sleep.
Anyway, I'm happy to be a part of this instance, and I hope you all enjoy my posts about bikes, public transit, Linux, Open Source Software, IT Security, Privacy, and the BSDs. I'm a Socialist, but will try my best to stay away from politics.

Keep in mind that solo devs can only keep going through your help, both financial support and engagement with their work.
This matters even more when they don't rely on big funding.
Only you can make the difference, in every way available:
- Financial support
- Writing a kind message
- Reporting issues
- Telling a friend
And keep being respectful, even with an annoying bug :)
Without it, #Fedilab wouldn't have survived 9 years. Thank you for your support.

J'ai commencé à m'intéresser à la low-tech il y a quelques années, un peu par hasard. Un chauffe-eau solaire bricolé, un raspberry pi récupéré chez un pote, et puis vite, la question qui trotte : est-ce que je peux faire pareil avec le reste de ma vie ? En 2026, le mouvement a pas mal changé. Il a grandi. Il s'organise. Et accessoirement, il se fait récupérer. Tour d'horizon de ce que j'ai vu cette année...

@dbattistella The best treatment is to DeGoogle. Did you know, when setting up an Android device, you can skip the Google sign ins? It means you won't access the Google Play Store but that is a good thing. Use the FOSS store instead. Ask me how.

NetBSD 11.0 released
