@fedicat lets say someone quote posts a post my Mastodon about their new redesign, and dunks on it a lot. if you `liked` that post, you probably are not liking the post about the design, you are liking the dunk in which case it doesn't make sense to `like` both

---Reply--- fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe (2026-08-19 07:52:34) @liaizon I'm going with the spirit of the new mastodon quotes, that you shouldn't be quoting a post just to dunk on it (in which case the original poster can revoke the quote), and you shouldn't be liking a post that's quoting a post just to dunk on it.

@liaizon my primary motivation is I feel like quote posts are like stealers, when I'm liking a quote post chances are I really intend to like the original post, and the original poster never gets to see all those likes
