@apps @pixelfed I agree, I really like how #mitra and #gotosocial have openapi specs (best combination is that and a changelog that lists all the api changes), and #neodb has a nice /developer page you can bring up on any instance, saves a ton of time

@apps @pixelfed I found the easiest way to find what endpoints to use is browsing the pixelfed react native app source. I have the ones I'm using defined here, with little explanation.

I don't know if anyone uses release tags or just runs the latest commits on main to get the latest fixes, but might as well draw a line in the sand and post an update:
Detailed CHANGELOG
highlights:
- Search has been updated to be usable: one search queries Accounts, Posts and Hashtags and displays results in tabs
- Media attachment system updated, re-ordering now possible
- Ctrl+Enter = send post
- Mention all participants when replying setting (made default because that's what people seem to expect)
- Complete emoji index for emoji picking
- Updated quote post behavior
- Better session management: refresh expired sessions automagically or offer reconnect button instead of 401 errors
- Fixes for when chan-fe is used as the default front end for Mitra

#Fedilab 3.45.0 has been published!
It brings several improvements and fixes. You can now add a colored mark next to avatars in timelines to easily identify content from some accounts. Large media files are automatically resized to what your instance supports. You can also publish directly from the message preview feature.
There are also many fixes, especially a lot of work on catching gaps in the Home timeline.

@nowster That's a #snac bug. The marker should be returned as a Datetime, documented here: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/api/datetime-format/#datetime. Based on the error message it looks like it's returning $milliseconds.$nanoseconds since the epoch.
I've reported this as https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2/issues/659.

Thank you, @dch@bsd.network
One of the peculiarities of littleFedi is that it was developed and tested first on the BSDs, then on illumos, and only later on Linux.
The first public instance, my own @stefano@rpi0w.stefanomarinelli.it account, runs on a Raspberry Pi Zero W with NetBSD.
I don’t think many social platforms have started out on NetBSD in recent years.

They contain many bugfixes in addition to updating some of our dependencies to fix security issues in those.
We recommend administrators to update when they can.

It doesn't support custom `icon` and `image` attributes. It'll *always* show the app's icon and "from Phanpy" in the title. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/ServiceWorkerRegistration/showNotification

The Little Computer People Present littleFedi: Our First Public Release
"Hi,
We would like to show you a small project we've built and used over the last few years.
It's a Mastodon-like platform that federates using its own protocol and can work even without HTTPS or public Internet access. Many of us have restrictions on our communications, and this project has helped us stay in touch and have our own social network. We'd love to show it to you and hear what you think, because your OwnYourData message really resonates with us."
The Story
And this email sat ignored for weeks.
It came from an anonymous, generic mailbox, with an even more anonymous and suspicious subject. The spam filter had classified it as, well, spam, for other reasons too. Only when I checked the spam folder again, weeks later, did I move it to the Inbox. "Why not?", I thought. And I asked to see what they had built.
There was no way for me to connect to one of their instances. They trusted me and sent me the code which, although fragmented and loosely put together, compiled and ran natively on FreeBSD. But before that: "We only ask you to never say anything, at least until we're ready. We don't want to be visible and, inevitably, judged or attacked. We tried something else before and backed away. Our software isn't high quality and we know it. But it works, for us, and we have fun building it. When it works we're happy, shut away in our rooms, often in the middle of the night. Sometimes, joking, we say we're like little people living inside our computers and that, thanks to this software, we can talk to each other."
At that moment I smiled and thought of a 1985 video game, from my childhood, that was quite revolutionary at the time: "You're like Little Computer People". They liked it. And that's how the group got its name: the Little Computer People.
My first test went well. I was immediately struck by the lightweight interface. "We have old

This is very bad news. Owncast has relied on this program the past couple of years, and has allowed us to have servers and services we wouldn't normally afford to be able to do otherwise, especially now with Gabe being unemployed.
Any other cloud hosting providers want to step in and help all the open source projects that are going to be in this position?
Additionally, this might be a good time to show your financial support for Owncast.

Some Mastodon servers have been seeing sudden spikes in remote media storage over the past few months, caused by bots crawling public pages and forcing Mastodon to re-download old media.
I wrote a short post on what's happening and how to reduce it:

First of all, we have now have a dedicated page where you not only can see all the Fediverse accounts for the public organizations, we also made it easy for you to download them in bulk. Fedify 2.4.0 is out.
The main addition is support for FEP-ef61 portable objects. A Fedify server can now host actors whose identity is a DID instead of a domain, serve their signed objects through /.well-known/apgateway/, and verify the portable objects of other servers. I tested it against tootik and Mitra, and wrote up where Fedify's profile differs from the FEP and what it leaves out.
The release also adds application-defined background tasks, the ActivityPub Media Upload extension, per-request inbox reports, 410 Gone for deleted objects, and four new packages (AdonisJS, Netlify, PGlite, and interaction controls).
Some defaults changed, so please read the upgrading section before you update, especially if you federate with software that uses FEP-ef61 compatible identifiers.
Release notes: https://hackers.pub/@fedify/2026/fedify-2-4.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this cycle, and to @silverpill for patient answers about the FEP.
