Just for information, if you have a #DeepL API key, you can perfectly use it with #Fedilab. Just search for "DeepL" in the settings. A single tap lets you customize the settings.

Behind Fedilab and other projects I'm a solo dev, and I've grown really attached to some accounts I keep seeing around. We don't know each other personally, but open source allows that genuine closeness built on real trust. Fedilab and any other project would be nothing without you. Keeping this proximity with contributors is the best part. Thank you for being there :)

I've been using Fedilab for long enough now that I don't even remember why I chose it. I've tried the official Mastodon app a few times, but came back to Fedilab because familiar felt better (and I remember the official app seemed like it used more real estate to present less information).
What does all that mean? Hell if I know, but what I do know is I have a choice. And I love that.

Besides Mapstodon.Space, I've set up an instance of wanderer, a decentralized, self-hosted trail database software (think Strava/Komoot alternative on the Fediverse!).
Due to a slow but steady growth, it was struggling recently with a low-spec infra (a Raspberry Pi). I've migrated the instance on a machine with much better specs and it runs way more smoothly now.

Release v3.3.7 of Ktistec fixes several bugs and introduces two enhancements.
Security is a focus in this release. Every gap in input sanitization or escaping is a potential vulnerability, and I've been systematically closing them. I am also carefully, and maybe conservatively, restricting things like supported URL schemes and uploaded file types.
The two enhancements improve compatibility with Mastodon-compatible clients. Mastodon's OAuth tokens don't expire, and Mastodon clients don't know how to handle tokens that do. Sliding expiration ensures that tokens in active use stay alive, while unused tokens eventually expire.
Here's the full changelog:
Added
Sliding token expiration for OAuth2 access tokens.
Mastodon-compatible API: /api/v1/accounts/update_credentials endpoint.
Fixed
Prevent pinning of (and auto-unpin) private objects.
Don't save a quote if the quoted actor cannot be dereferenced.
Fix rendering of federated actor profile attachment values.
Remove href attributes with unsafe schemes from sanitized HTML.
Escape interpolated values in view helpers and the actor icon streaming refresh.
Restrict upload extensions and serve uploads with X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff.
Escape publicKey and scrub Tag.href.
Sanitizer no longer permits single-quote attribute injection.
Ensure bearer-token sessions cannot reach the web UI.
Require client authentication on the OAuth token endpoint.
I'm working on performance improvements for the next release. A rewrite of the Slang template library looks like it will cut both build time and executable size by around 10%!

I wanted to build a decentralized communication platform where you can truly own your online presence. Fediverse is not quite that, because you need to rent a domain name and often the hardware too, but it was the biggest decentralized network at the time, so I decided that it is a good place to start.
Mitra was a testing ground for various protocol extensions, and eventually grew into a full-fledged micro-blog.
