I have seen the @Codeberg people say they don't want to be the only code-forge.
I.e., they don't wan to replace GitHub. They want there to be many code-forges out there, including them.
I agree with this goal.
But — I think until we (at least) have federated pull-requests, this is less likely to happen.
And, I do know that there is an effort to add ActivityPub support to Forgejo, Gitea, and others.

#HolosSocial 1.7.0 is available.
This version adds multi-device support. You can connect a phone, tablet and desktop to the same account. To add a new device, you scan a QR code from one you already use. This transfers your key and all your account data, encrypted end to end, so the relay never sees it in clear.
It also adds bio translation on profiles, actor lists for boost and like notifications, DM filtering, and several fixes.

Update on my #FediMerch repo. A few weeks ago, I tried to handcraft a "store.json" file rather than just create a README.md file with each store listed. That was a dumb idea.
Instead, I'll split each entry into a structured .MD file. This can create an API, JSON, SQLite databases, HTML, whatever someone can fancy up in their head. All thanks to @11ty and @seancdavis

A question for the Fedi Hivemind:
There's a webcomic I can't remember the name of. x__x I remember coming across it in the mid-late 2000s. It was bright and cartoony and very well drawn; I remember it being hilarious, actual laughing out loud kind of thing. It was short, though, and unfinished.
It took place in a high school, followed a number of different characters. In particular, I remember one of the teachers, a rather nerdy guy, selling his soul to the devil because he was so fed up with the kids or something, and becoming a devil himself; he grew large horns and gained more of a devil-like temper. There was also a rooster? I think? Anyway... hell and fire were some of the major themes.
I know it's not much to go on... I remember it so well, even if I can't remember details or the name of it. Anyone have any ideas what it could have been?

After a full week of work on #HolosSocial, I will deploy the new relay code tomorrow to support multi-device, and compile the apps.
Next week I will be back to #Fedilab.
Switching too much between projects doesn't help, but spending more than a week on a single project is not a good move either.
Fedilab and Holos are two big projects that deserve a balanced approach. Thank you for your patience.

PeerTube is a viable alternative to YouTube
Sure it does not have the reach, but it has something more precious for creators like Steven Colbert. You can take control.
This seems daunting, but it is actually quite simple. Using a very modest server setup ($7.25 per month) @oldcoder is now hosting Only In Monroe commercial free, as a demonstration to creators everywhere.

I have been working on ProToGo this week.
(And, doing more coding than posting here.)
ProToGo is a career, gig, and business focused application (front-end) for the Fediverse and Social Web.

Originally, when I started coding it in January 2025 it was a WASM app. But, I switched it to a Gio app to make it more performant.
I.e., I've been doing a re-write of the front-end code this week.

I cleaned up some of the error codes in #tagspub. I was being overprecise about missing headers needed for HTTP Signature -- returning 400 instead of 401 status. They were important specifically for checking the signature, so I changed them to 401. I also fixed a bug where keys that return 410 Gone were causing a 500 error in tags.pub. I changed that to 401, too -- it's not a valid signature if the key is missing. That seems to have helped also!

Did you know you can use a bit of the Markdown syntax in various fields of #PeerTube (such as video descriptions, profile description, comments, etc.)?
You can access the list of available syntax by clicking on the help button of the field.

A couple of weeks ago a woman who’d followed me on Instagram for 10 years happened to be in town and came to pay me a visit. We had written back and forth over the years and sent each other gifts in the mail. She even began making pottery herself, she says inspired by me. Leaving IG after twelve years was no simple, easy thing. Meeting her made me remember the positive side of social media—it’s potential to connect like-minded, kindred souls who never would otherwise have met.

I'm toying with Snac, using it more and more. It's an amazing peace of technology. It does what it does, and doesn't get in my way. Faster than mastodon, better looking (I have a custom theme!) than mastodon, and running in my infrastructure. It checks all the boxes.
It only lacks auto-complete of handles and tags.
