Hello #GoToSocial enjoyers, after a very fruitful release candidate process (thanks everyone!), we've just released the proper version of GoToSocial 0.22.0, aka Shrubby Sloth 🌿:

This is a big feature release that contains support for relay subscriptions and relay push connections, a new instance account directory, better threading using tombstones for deleted statuses,, and support for auto-cleanup of old remote statuses, among lots of other things!
⚠️⚠️⚠️ As always, please read the migration notes carefully for instructions on how to upgrade to this version, in particular note that there are several config file changes that need to be addressed when you're updating from a previous version of GoToSocial to this version.
This release also contains a long-ass database migration to move status boolean columns (like pinned, local, etc) to a single bitfield column. This saves a lot of space in the database, but it also means on startup the migration has to iterate through all statuses in your database and set the new field. Please be patient and don't interrupt this process! ⚠️⚠️⚠️
Release highlights
Relay support: GoToSocial now supports subscribing to relays (as an admin action), and pushing posts to relays (configured per-user, with filters available).

Automated cleanup of old remote posts: you can now configure your instance to clean up threads of remote statuses that haven't been interacted with by anyone on your instance. This should save a lot of space in folks' databases!

Delivery error tracking for remote instances: there's now a page in the settings panel where admin can view errors encountered while attempting delivery of posts to instances that may be experiencing technical difficulties or may have gone offline. You can use this to get a quick v

If you're running a public Mastodon server, it is really important to set aside running costs for three months. Leave this money in a separate account if possible, and do not touch it for as long as your server is running.
This three month set-aside means you can guarantee your members three months warning if you ever decide to close the server, which is plenty of time to move accounts. This gives your server credibility both with existing members and potential new members.

The #Universeodon instance is now updated to Mastodon 4.6.

Some good news, I've managed to get the Mastodon fork we use for #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon now updated for 4.6.
I'm going to try updating #Universeodon fairly shortly so there might be a couple of blips while I perform DB migrations and get everything up and running there. Once I'm happy that Universeodon is working as expected and given it a couple of days for the dust to settle I'll get #MastodonAppUK also upgraded to the same version.

The ap+ef61 URI scheme is now allowed, while ap remains the recommended one. This is to ensure compatibility with @fedify whose maintainers decided to use the ap+ef61 scheme until the specification is finalized.

We do not expect the issue to be resolved soon. We are waiting for a fix from the datacenter operator and will monitor the situation in order to restore service as soon as possible after power returns.
Currently, one server is with power again, but the others remain unreachable. Our investigation shows that network equipment is also affected.

I've just published version 2.93 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:
Added a new admirations entry point to the web UI, containing a timeline of liked, boosted and reacted posts. Please take note that, after installing the new version, it will start empty, and be filled with subsequent reactions (contributed by violette).
It's now possible to disable showing posts in a given set of languages.
Nested quoted posts are limited up to 3 levels.
New configuration knob: by setting keep_replies_posts to true in server.json, remote posts that a local user has replied to are retained in the public timeline, preventing them from being purged (contributed by hanchan).
