fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe (2026-07-06 02:12:45) I'm thinking it would be nice to have an option to create a list from a #mastodon collection and vica versa

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @FediVideo@social.growyourown.services (2026-07-05 22:07:01) Chris Were is one of the longest-running vloggers on the Fediverse, posting chilled-out videos on many topics including Linux, FOSS, gaming, food, life etc since 2018. You can follow at:

➡️ @chris

Don't worry if it looks blank to you, that just means no one from your server follows it yet. Follow and its videos will gradually start showing up on your server too.

You can also follow Chris's non-video account at @ChrisWere

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @fedify@hackers.pub (2026-07-05 11:04:48) Fedify keeps growing a family of sibling projects, each one solving a different piece of what it takes to build on ActivityPub.

Hollo is a single-user microblogging server built on Fedify. It has a Mastodon-compatible API, CommonMark support, and quotes in both Mastodon and Misskey style.

BotKit is a framework for building standalone ActivityPub bots, no Mastodon or Misskey account required behind it. A complete bot fits in a single TypeScript file.

Two more are still incubating. DrFed is a web-based platform for inspecting ActivityPub objects and activities and tracing where federation breaks down. Feder is a lightweight ActivityPub server framework in Rust, a sibling to Fedify for those working outside the TypeScript ecosystem.

All of them live under the @fedify-dev organization on GitHub.

No new features introduced. Instead, we polished the old ones.

We are also standardizing social bookmarking now. See https://w3id.org/fep/4772

We also contributed patches to Ties, Omnom, and Postmarks. They will soon federate compatible bookmarks.

PR: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/pulls/876

Hello!

This FEP describes how to represent bookmarks in federated bookmark managers. It describes several aspects of them.

Betula was the first one to represent bookmarks like this. Recently I contributed patches to Ties, Omnom and Postmarks so that they federate bookmarks in the same format. Ties and Omnom have it merged, Postmarks not yet.

Quote bookmarks are partially implemented in Betula, with full implementation ongoing.

Folders and document copies are not properly implemented anywhere, and these are mostly thoughts for the future. Should they maybe be collections, linked in a field of the Note?

To get an intuition of how a federated bookmark manager works, see my instance https://links.bouncepaw.com and perhaps interact with @bouncepaw@links.bouncepaw.com.

Would be grateful for feedback!

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe (2026-07-05 04:42:37) @apps Vernissage has this. I think in general alt text generators should be treated like translation services installed on mastodon, may have nothing or libretranslate or deepl..., and the user can decide whether or not to use it. Ideally an instance would document/advertise what it's using - I think mastodon instance info just indicates whether it has translation and what languages, but it does return the name of the service along with the translation, so I include that in my translations.

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @apps@toot.fedilab.app (2026-07-05 04:18:20) The only service being abused on my server is the translation one with #LibreTranslate, so I am going to introduce an API key that will discard a lot of bots.

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @silverpill@mitra.social (2026-07-05 03:43:36) I've got a report about Mastodon v4.7.0-alpha.1 not federating with Mitra. Can anybody confirm this?

They recently merged FEP-8b32 signature verification, that might be relevant. All Mitra activities are signed

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @bitprophet@social.coop (2026-07-04 22:22:29) Some really interesting divergences in @ricci’ hashtag tool, with a semi popular tech nerd instance as the medium and my home of #SocialCoop as the smol:

https://tag-federation.online/#tag=caturday&servers=mastodon.social,infosec.exchange,social.coop - Caturday broadly as visible here as on infosec.exchange, both being a sizable majority of m.s. Similar for DogsOfMastodon.

https://tag-federation.online/#tag=throwbackThursday&servers=mastodon.social,infosec.exchange,social.coop - ThrowbackThursday enjoys almost perfect replication on infosec, yet almost nothing on social.coop!

https://tag-federation.online/#tag=TransRights&servers=mastodon.social,infosec.exchange,social.coop - trans rights looks more like the animals hashtags than the nostalgia one, but with a bit more of a local to me dropoff.

Already wondering what kinds of pseudo-research one could do here re: what categories of hashtags have broader reach, and how fast the drop off is on smaller instances.

started an experiment to bridge reviews from Atmosphere (popfeed.social for now) to #NeoDB in Fediverse (eggplant.place for now)

this works similarly to @snarfed.org 's fed.brid.gy, but will be focusing on culture review related lexicons.

still quite early stage so expect some issues. feel free to opt-out your atproto id if you prefer not get bridged. this will be one-directional from atproto to ap, so nothing to worry if you are fedi only.

That is, if we can grow the diversity of our community and at the same time kick out the gatekeepers.

“I poisoned my own mind.”

More and more programmers are writing retrospectives like this — and a huge THANK YOU to Elissa for doing so — where they discover that Programming Is Not Special.

It is particularly interesting to read this from a solo game developer who is both a programmer and an artist, who began by thinking the programing isn’t art, and discovered by an emotionally torturous process that it actually is.

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @ricci@discuss.systems (2026-07-04 15:18:33) It can be hard to understand how hashtags spread around the #fediverse, so I built a little tool to help you explore how visible hashtags are on different servers. The page also contains tips for how you can follow hashtags more effectively and help your own tagged posts get spread more broadly.
