We will extend or disrupt the availability after the COSCUP, based on user's thoughts.

Thanks for understanding.

Nice to see Samsung doing something about this.

Each day, we play as a family, a small ritual where the children try to guess the daily word.

If you want to know more, follow @Fedle. In its bio there are links to bots to play in your language. And maybe you can help your instance climb to the top:

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @ganbold@sns1.hydranlab.com (2026-07-17 20:06:02) been thinking of hosting my own AP server for a year or two, and finally today I run my own using [tinyap](https://github.com/izkluxcvy/tinyap).
I didnt really want to self-host, but I don't understand why misskey and sharkey FE are unnecessarily heavy which hang on my 1-2 gigs free laptop (weird).

the other reason is simply I'd like to stress test and run some experiment with it, esp through API. I feel bad to experiment on someone else server.

so, yeah, enjoy while it last

(Don't worry if it looks blank to you, that just means no one from your server follows it yet. Follow and its videos will start gradually showing up on your server too.)

This deployment also resolves the issue where editing the wiki resulted in a JavaScript error, and where self-hosted Forgejo runners were displayed as offline when they were not.

We're still tracking and investigating the poor performance of codeberg.org

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @thoralf@gruene.social (2026-07-21 16:51:39) I have realized that #Phandroid so far used the wrong upstream-branch.

I have used this finding to change the way releases are handled.
There are now 2 release channels:
1. Manually tested standard releases (Phandroid, using the stable production-branch of #Phanpy)
2. fully automatic dev-Releases (Phandroid Dev, main-branch)

If you do nothing, the setup will continue to provide you with stable releases, just less frequently.
Optionally you can install Dev (side-by-side, dedicated settings).

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @alienghic@timeloop.cafe (2026-07-21 10:01:19) I have a new challenge.

One of my kids friends got banned from Instagram, and apparently tried to create an account on X.

I of course said how about mastodon, and kid said "that's just old people".

So I'd really like to have an alternative to X to suggest.

Is there anything on the fediverse that's decent for teens?

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @wild1145@mastodonapp.uk (2026-07-21 05:12:57) I've roughly doubled the memory allocation to the SideKiq / content processing server taking us from around 50GB (Which I think is what it was originally) up to about 110GB. That should give us plenty of headroom for the time being.

I'm hoping I'll have some time of an evening later this week or if not at the weekend to build out a couple of new SideKiq nodes and scale down what's running on the current one so that at least that way if one does lock up it shouldn't lock everything up again.

I do at some point want to re-build all of this in a nicer way anyway so it might be the starting point for that to be honest...

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @FediFollows@social.growyourown.services (2026-07-21 07:02:06) Just FYI, I vet every account I recommend on FediFollows, and I also use server blocklists to prevent making recommendations of accounts from known problematic servers.

If you see something unsuitable/problematic mentioned on my recommended account lists, please DM me and let me know! I do screen everything, but sometimes things slip through the net.

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @silverpill@mitra.social (2026-07-21 04:52:33) I finally got around to trying #iroh

It nicely complements FEP-ef61, because it allows you to connect to another actor by its did:key. In theory, we can completely replace the federation of HTTP servers with a federation of iroh nodes.

However, I'm not convinced that iroh is the best solution. The most obvious problem is a lack of anonymity. Newer versions of iroh support custom transports, and Tor transport is among them, though still experimental. The work on I2P transport has not started yet.

Another problem is the requirement to be online all the time. A potential solution is iroh-gossip, which I haven't tried yet, but I doubt that it works good enough for nodes that come online once per week.

A more traditional approach to FEP-ef61 with a combination for clearnet, tor and i2p gateways might be simpler and better. But iroh is an interesting project that's worth keeping an eye on.

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @stefan@stefanbohacek.online (2026-06-25 22:44:51) It looks like whoever is behind this has finally come for one of my sites. Manually blocking datacenter IPs has worked for a while, but it seems like the traffic is now coming either from residential IPs, or the IPs are just getting spoofed.

Real conundrum. I didn't want to have to set up Cloudflare for the site, and I have to wonder how good they are at catching this anyway, but it might just come to that.

Anyone else has been dealing with this?

Price increase at Hetzner's is hitting us quite hard (roughly +30%) and I don't know how to cover costs for future storage increase. Sadly I must say that the donation based approach has its limits. A good portion of the costs are covered by early adopters even though we see a constant growth in the user base. If you're updating to this version from a version before v0.22.0, please follow the update instructions from v0.22.0, but replace 0.22.0 with 0.22.1 throughout. Be aware that the update to 0.22.x contains some serious database migrations. Please do read the notes carefully!

If you're on current main/snapshot, stay there. You already have all the bugfixes from here, and going backwards won't work.
