@liaizon my primary motivation is I feel like quote posts are like stealers, when I'm liking a quote post chances are I really intend to like the original post, and the original poster never gets to see all those likes

---Reply--- wakest likes your bugs ⁂@liaizon@social.wake.st (2026-08-19 08:08:29) @fedicat I get the intention behind it, and I think it is an interesting topic to discus regardless. I guess I personally think there are good uses for "dunking" on things and the idea that everyone must only quote post things for positive reasons is just not how the world works. take for instance the @EUCommission account, most posts there have wonderful qp dunk potential. and you are almost universally punching up as it were.

@liaizon in #fedicat you can still post and share the link without anyone stopping you, but in this particular example I would just reply, instead of quoting them and saying look at what this idiot said (although #gotosocial has reply controls), regardless, I don't pretend to have The One True Way of the fediverse, but I do have my way (actually multiple often conflicting ways) that I'm going for, so it's actually nice there are so many clients out there I can try really specific approaches.
