AI Made A Lot Of "Hideous" Code But Found Major Bottlenecks For Faster Linux Compilation
An ARM Linux engineer leveraged AI/LLMs to help uncover some improvements to "significant speed up" the Linux kernel build times. In the process the LLM used generated "a lot of code, much of it hideous" but in the end was used to find some very significant time savings for faster kernel builds via more task parallelization in different areas of the kernel build process...

We have two new open calls for financial and practical support to free and open source technology R&D.
This summer we transitioned from the Next Generation Internet to the Open Internet Stack, both initiatives of the European Commission.
Much will stay the same. The granting mechanism has the same offerings and requirements as before, and the new programs will continue to offer a wide range of freely available support services.
Deadline for applications is November 3.

Concerning #FediHood, the most important part is done and it is stable enough. I am not good at promoting things, and I think I have talked about the project enough. I will let it live on its own for a few weeks now and tag the release as 1.0.0.

It is amazing how out of memory errors stopped showing up in crash reports with #Fedilab. #LeakCanary really helped (I regret having disabled it for so long)

I am in contact with Google. Living in Europe and having the GDPR will be the solution. I had to fill in a form for each app, even the banned one (UntrackMe), and it should be enough to have them all removed before I can ask to permanently close my account. Europe is really ahead when it comes to privacy.
