Loops is open source and federated with ActivityPub, not sure how it could be more open or decentralized lol

If you haven't checked out Vernissage (a federated photo sharing platform), I highly recommend it. Beautiful photography, each instance can have a curator and the feeds are stunning.
You can (but don't have to) include photo metadata stats if you're a fancy professional, too.
The app is well designed too, some lovely design choices I've not seen elsewhere.

Have you ever wanted a Codeberg t-shirt? Maybe a polo shirt? What about a towel or a mug? A barrel bag?! If that's the case, we put together a list of places where you can get them from: https://merch.codeberg.org
To be clear, we don't produce, sell or earn a commission from any sales made. Our logos can be used to print garments at no cost. (If you're interested in doing it yourself, you can get them here: https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/Design)

@julian @reiver DIDs are not really hard to implement. However, to get the most out of them, a different application architecture is required, where you generate activities on the client side (this is similar to an ActivityPub client described in the spec).
No easy upgrade path for most fedi projects.

@evan @julian @reiver Cryptographic identity is also not a new technology, PGP was developed more than 30 years ago, and a lot has happened since then. Hardware keys, HSMs in smartphones, etc. And DIDs.
DID is an abstraction that allows key rotation and delegation of key management to a trusted 3rd party. Bluesky uses DIDs for identities but most of its users never touch a secret key.
Anyway, in Fediverse we don't need to choose between domain names and DIDs. We have both, because FEP-ef61 is a backward compatible protocol upgrade.

Also updating the AP-Next developer guide:
At the very least, requests to localhost, private and unspecified IPv4 and IPv6 addresses must be blocked. Note that IPv6 addresses can be mapped to IPv4 addresses.
Some people also recommend blocking requests to multicast addresses, but I was not able to find any information on how to use them for SSRF (apart from a couple of slop CVEs).

@julian @reiver @silverpill There are about 390M registered domain names. The system has, in fact, been used for decades. The Web and email depend on DNS.
Cryptographic keys as the root of identity are extremely hard for people to use -- about 10% of all Bitcoin wallets with money in them are lost for good. And there's actual money in those.
DNS >> cryptographic keys

@reiver@mastodon.social okay, fair, but I think dids are not a technically feasible solution because it is confusing for now (sorry @silverpill@mitra.social)
Maybe I just need to read up on DIDs and just do it... but domain names have the weight and inertia of decades of implementation.

And if that's still too much code, here's a follow up with almost none.
Hope you'll enjoy!
