@cwebber @TodePond me among them! I don't like 'normal' programming but geonodes I can get lost in, and I end up sneakily learning some general concepts in the process. like now I know that fields are monads, thanks lol. it also forced me to learn about vector math!

We're now actively seeing attrition on people contributing to the ActivityPub Trust & Safety taskforce because we've failed to secure funding to pay people to do the required work, which is to the detriment of the entire fediverse.
It is not pretty or headline catching work, but it is necessary work that underpins the very social fabric of the fediverse.
It's now been 205 days since I submitted an application with @nlnet to try to secure funding for this work. That's almost 7 months.
The only update I've received to date was on 9th March 2026 that simply stated "your project "ActivityPub Trust & Safety Taskforce" (2025-12-371) has been selected to enter the second round of the December 2025 call"
The email did include "Note that proposals are reviewed with regards to urgency, relevance and value for money.", so my only logical conclusion is that NLNet does not see trust & safety work as urgently needed, relevant or value for money 🤷🏻♀️
Maybe there's another funding organisation that wants to fund the taskforce? So far I haven't seen an appropriate fund.

I'm appalled to see the European Commission apparently embracing closed source, commercial, ID and age verification mandatory, social media today - in the very face of the technology sovereignty and online freedoms debates.
I think they've just thrown away the greatest opportunity to be the champion of all things open and collaborative, and to live and demonstrate their own values. Incredibly disappointed.

In the latest Mastodon update, collections were introduced, but at the moment there’s not a way to discover them easily.
I’d like to recommend posting an announcement for each of your collections with a specific hashtag for now. That way you can follow the hashtag and see them all.
I wanna find ‘em!

(Just thinking out loud here, please no one be dramatic) Is it still worth it for me to keep maintaining Tangerine UI?
I had a ton of fun creating the theme and evolving it. But now that it's come to a point I had considered finished, it's genuinely depressing to spend many hours on it every time there's a new Mastodon release, all just to un-break it and bring it up to speed. No fun involved 😅 (and no money either)
I think the team at Mastodon did a fantastic job creating a future-proof token system for building custom themes that don't break as easily with every update. But in the case of Tangerine UI, a pre-existing theme, adopting it now requires rewriting many lines of CSS to ensure it becomes more future-proof (and that also involves hours spent on testing/tweaking to make sure every UI component looks good). I'm just not sure I have it in me to work on this rewrite now.

due to the increase in vulnerabilities, we recommend upgrading your software all the time to patch all vulnerabilities, but we also recommend pinning your software to the past to avoid new vulnerabilities

I've been doing a bunch of Blender Geometry Nodes and have been thinking about how great it is to have a purely functional combinator based programming language and it even has monads (field types) and its users are mostly artists who don't consider themselves programmers!
