I often read kind messages supporting Fedilab, and I am really grateful for them. There are two of us behind the scenes, @HurricaneWeasel and me.
Some active reporters already know him. He helps me a lot with the Fedilab account, and mostly with his wonderful work on issues.
He listens to you and prioritizes issues on Codeberg, which keeps me from drowning. He even does a gradual rollout of issues so I don't get discouraged :)

Running a Mastodon server is becoming increasingly problematic due to GenAI.
There’s multiple different things happening, including but not limited to:
- very aggressive scraping of user content and block evasion, with the resource costs that come with it
- AI agents aggressively trying to register accounts and evade restrictions
- rising cost of RAM - Mastodon is memory hungry, RAM is really expensive now
It’s odd to experience first hand, it’s like being consumed by.. a void.

We are aware of an ongoing wave of subscription spam throughout the fediverse.
We are investigating avenues to mitigate this, but they will likely involve deep changes in the sign-up flow that may break sign-up from existing applications.

Latest build resets defaults because I renamed all the AppStorage paths to avoid an issue with dots, in the process also changed the gif autoplay default to false, and Bookmark/Bookmarks/Unbookmark is now Save/Saved/Unsave.

So, I maintain the @fedidevs account, and was just informed the channels instance is closing down in October.
Not sure what I’m going to do, maybe a @surf feed. But I don’t think I can migrate followers to Surf.
It was basically a repeater - channels would boost all posts from accounts I followed.
I guess another option is a custom @botkit bot? Same issue there tho with migration, I think.
EDIT: I think another mastodon instance + custom scripted bot is the answer.

If you have an app that relies on alternative frontends such as #Invidious, #Nitter and others, it's often hard to maintain a list of instances. I had that problem with #UntrackMe and #CastLab, so a CI job now runs every day to maintain a list of available instances.
I might add support for this to #Fedilab.

Currently DMs no longer work for #Pixelfed with #Fedilab. There was a breaking change in the API. I am waiting to get more details before adding this new behavior to the app. Thanks for your patience.

You can now preview messages before posting. Home filters (long press on the tab) are now also available for local, public and list timelines. This version also includes several fixes, such as large gaps in the home timeline. If you still have issues, a tool lets you share anonymized data to help find what went wrong.

The Social Web Community Group has published a new draft report:
LOLA Portability for ActivityPub (0.3)
It describes how to move an account at one ActivityPub server to another, so there is a common way of letting users change servers without losing their content or their connections.

Testing #Pipilo on iPhone Duo simulator. Since the app already supports iPad there isn't anything terribly wrong. Mostly minor padding issues.
The bottom bar perhaps could be converted into a side menu and moved to avoid the fold…
