Andrea is a musician who makes videos of organ music and music on other instruments. You can follow at:
➡️ @andijah@rankett.net
Don't worry if the account looks blank to you, that just means no one from your server has followed it yet. Follow the account and its videos will start gradually showing up on your server too.
You can also follow their Mastodon account @andijah@brotkru.me (in German).

Hello pals, here's the first release candidate for version 0.22.0 of #GoToSocial:
https://codeberg.org/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/releases/tag/v0.22.0-rc1
Admins who are feeling adventurous or desperate for the new stuff can try out this release candidate at their leisure.
As always, please read the migration notes carefully for instructions on how to upgrade to this version, in particular note that there are several config file changes that need to be addressed when you're updating from a previous version of GoToSocial to this version, and there are some quite long database migrations as well.
Release highlights
Relay support: GoToSocial now supports subscribing to relays (as an admin action), and pushing posts to relays (configured per-user, with filters available).
Documentation for admin-level relay subscriptions.
Documentation for user-level relays pushes.
Automated cleanup of old remote posts: you can now configure your instance to clean up threads of remote statuses that haven't been interacted with by anyone on your instance. This should save a lot of space in folks' databases!
Documentation for post caching + pruning.
Delivery error tracking for remote instances: there's now a page in the settings panel where admin can view errors encountered while attempting delivery of posts to instances that may be experiencing technical difficulties or may have gone offline. You can use this to get a quick view on possible "dead" instances that you can then remove from your database with a domain block.
Accounts directory: there's a new setting to allow admins to expose (or not) a directory of accounts on the instance! Your account will only be shown in the directory if you opt in via your privacy settings.
Documentation for inclusion in account directory.
Better tracking of deleted statuses/status tombstones: GtS now stores tombstones for deleted statuses, allowing threads to remain intact even when a status in the middle of the thread has been deleted.

Well this is absolutely horrifying for all sorts of reasons.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/social-media-to-be-banned-for-under-16s-in-landmark-government-move-to-givekids-their-childhood-back
There's a lot of smarter people than I that can articulate why this is as terrible as it is but it's already proven to be entirely ineffective in Australia who did something similar and now gives another "Justification" for the invasive "ID Verification" (A giant target database of your government issued ID pictures more accurately for hackers to try to steal) checks...

As NLnet transitions from #NGI to the Open Internet Stack (OIS), we'll temporarily pause our bimonthly open calls, with the exception of NGI Taler & Fediversity.
In order to take stock of a decade of the Next Generation Internet initiative, we'll halt our open calls. After the summer the regular application process will re-open with 3 new programs under the new #OIS umbrella. Ongoing projects can continue their important work uninterrupted.

I used to be quite active on that one bird social network until that one guy purchased it, and then I removed myself from it. From those days, I remember learning a lot from many other folks, many of them in a different field: economists, sociologists, environmental scientists, statisticians, humanities scholars, etc. but also from policymakers, people who were in tech or in many other industries.
I am opening this account with the hope of recapturing that experience. #introduction

When this post is about 2 hours old (at 7 PM MDT / 9 PM EDT) we will #Monsterdon !
This means that you, yes YOU can watch a movie of questionable quality along with hundreds of your new best friends.
OR you might want to mute the hashtag if you *don't* want your Sunday night (or Monday morning, or...) timeline to be full of comments of questionable quality. In the Mastodon web UI, you can do this by clicking on the hashtag above and selecting "Mute #Monsterdon " This will take you to the Filters page, where you can create a new filter for Monsterdon.
This week: In The Year 2889 (1969). What sold me on this movie was this quote from a review:
"Although not set in the year 2889, 'In The Year 2889' ... "
When is it actually set? Why 2889? LET'S FIND OUT
Not ONLY is this movie streaming free (at least in the US) on Tubi, it is available on WIKIPEDIA! Yes, that's right, you can watch the whole thing by going to its Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_the_Year_2889_(film) and just... hitting play. C'mon, you know you want to be able to brag to your friends that you've watched an entire feature-length film on Wikipedia, right?

Have you ever wondered which cities are mentioned the most in the Fediverse? I did! I built a small tool that checks the hashtags for the biggest cities in DE, AT, CH, NL, GB, IT, FR and DK.
You can see the results on the map here: https://54gradsoftware.codeberg.page/fedi-cities/.
You can find the software here, along with a list of limitations: https://codeberg.org/54GradSoftware/fedi-cities.
This is only a small, limited analysis, but you can see lots of dots everywhere, especially in bigger cities, and generally in Germany and the Netherlands. [1/3]

I've been reviewing the new FEP from the Mastodon team today, and one thing that caught my attention is the use of Accept and Reject activities for managing approvals. Another day, someone proposed to use Follow activity for "watching a thread".
So now, when you receive a standard activity, you need to use increasingly complicated heuristics to figure out what the activity does, because it is not possible to infer that from its type anymore.
This has to stop. I think we need to start giving our activities better names.

This is Haru and Tanos. Haru is the black cat. We adopted him from a shelter at two years old, after he lived there his whole life. Tanos is a Malinois. We took him in when his owner could not keep him anymore.
Life can change fast, animals are often the first to lose their home. This is why I made #PawFed, a shared map for animal welfare. Not many people use it yet, but it is worth sharing. It relies fully on #ActivityPub and uses #OSM.

I apologize about the latest 3.41.0 release of #Fedilab that introduced a deceptive UX. Collections work with the #Mastodon API on instances running 4.6 (currently in release candidate). I should have added a safeguard depending on the Mastodon release. I am really sorry for that.

Hi everyone! 👋
I'm an Assistant Professor at the University of Verona (Italy), working on plant nutrition, plant physiology and plant-soil interactions. 🌱
Right now I'm digging into non-destructive root phenotyping for hydroponically grown plants — would love to meet people working on root imaging, rhizotrons, image analysis (Fiji, SmartRoot...).
Also Section Editor for *Plant and Soil*, in case that's useful to know 😄
Glad to be here, looking forward to chatting! 👋
