AMD Boosting AI/LLM Performance For Radeon iGPUs As Much As 18~23% With Linux 7.4
If you have an AMD Ryzen laptop/desktop and looking to leverage AI/LLM capabilities with the integrated graphics, Linux 7.4 is going to be a real treat especially for lower-end hardware. AMD's new PerfOpt feature being introduced in Linux 7.4 is set to provide some solid gains as shown in these benchmarks today across different AMD Ryzen/Radeon hardware.

June 1, South of Cuba NM. One reason I don't like road walks is that there's always litter, and it can be kind of gross. There are prairie dog colonies right next to the highway, living among all the trash and litter and exhaust and speeding cars.

@Tini Total weight was about 12oz, stored in a gallon ziploc bag. For a thru I would probably get rid of the silicone cups, and try to optimize towards 8oz. That may seem heavy, but it's my luxury item, and I can still keep my pack under 10 pounds. Some people carry five pounds of camera gear! Sorry for the long reply! 8/8

@Tini
The palette I use the most, and brought on this trip is an old Windsor & Newton Sketcher's Pocket Set. It came with Cotman colors, which are student grade but not awful, and I used them up years ago and replaced them with regular half pans of mostly Dan Smith. There are 12 colors, which is enough that I don't feel like I'm missing anything, and there's just enough space for mixing. 7/8

@Tini Over the years I've experimented a lot with watercolor kits for backpacking. The lightest setup I've used is a plastic makeup container where I removed the make-up and added my own paint in the wells. That can get down to one ounce or less, but the downside is a limited palette and difficulty replacing colors with new ones. I have an https://arttoolkit.com palette which is light (about 2.5 oz full), and has a pan system that makes it easy to swap out colors. 6/8

@Tini For water reservoirs, I sometimes use the cut off bottoms of smartwater bottles, which is probably the lightest solution, but this time I used a pair of collapsible silicone cups with lids (1.9 oz each). Heavy, but the lids meant that I could put them away wet without worrying about stains. 5/8

@Tini For this hike I brought a "SEMLEART small watercolor sketchbook 3.9*3.9" 4.6oz, and I taped the edges of several pages before the hike.
A lot of people recommend aquabrushes for backpacking, but I find I don't like the lack of water control I get with those, so I bring 1 or 2 smallish Chinese calligraphy brushes. The brushes can take some abuse, in a backpack so I leave the expensive kolinsky sables at home.4/8

@Tini Lately, my thinking is that having a tiny, cute little square sketchbook will make me more likely to want to stop hiking a paint, and after some false starts, I learned that searching for "tiny 100% cotton watercolor paper sketchbook" on Amazon brings up some good candidates from random chinese vendors for not much money. The same thing would probably work on Aliexpress. The paper is not Arches, but it's still servicable. 3/8

@Tini The paper buckles, and it's hard to do drybrush. In my regular life, I've used various 5" by 8" journal-style sketchbooks for years. They all weigh around 8 oz but cut them in half and it's 4. For short hikes, the best/lightest solution is probably to just bring unbound sheets of watercolor paper and be careful with it. I haven't done it yet, but I'm interested in making field notes-style sketchbooks in the manner of this howto vid: https://youtu.be/zYn8PBWR2lg 2/8

@Tini Thank you! Oh no! You have asked me about gear! Long #artSupplies ramble follows.
I find it very hard on to make time for painting on a LASH or thru, so sometimes I only bring a sketchbook and pencil.
The lightest sketchbook I ever brought is a Travelers 013 refill, cut in half. The paper is very thin and smooth, but it doesn't bleed or feather, and you get 128 pages for 1.5 ounces. Add in some teeny tiny colored pencils, A bic plastic mechanical pencil, and the weight is about 2oz. 1/8
