Heads-up, you might want to check if your favorite app supports this, and let the developers know if not.

(Just reached out to the folks making the Mona app.)

Just as a bit of an update for the folks here on #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon

I haven't quite had the time I expected over the weekend to get the patched and customised version of Mastodon working with 4.6, I'm hoping to have some time later in the week however I am also currently pretty swamped with client work and have a fair bit of work travel coming up.

The plus side to all of this is the client work is what pays my bills and allows me to continue to invest in more hardware, I'm still very keen to get a UK based S3 service operational (Subject to Storage and RAM costs) for us to migrate our media to as well as getting a secondary site with enough capacity to run some of the workload if we ever had an issue on our primary site.

I'm hoping over the next couple of weeks to get us updated to the latest version of Mastodon and will share more as and when I've got useful info to share.

Something big is coming to Pixelfed.

We've reimagined the entire mobile experience from the ground up, blending beautiful design, lightning-fast performance, and thoughtful accessibility into one seamless app.

Here's your first look.

Loops in 2019 vs 2026.

What started as a simple Pixelfed feature has grown into it's own independent platform that better suites our growing community.

We couldn't be prouder of our progress, and our amazing community keeps us motivated.

pixelfed.social registration is closed until further notice

we will open registrations once we ship some new autospam detection measures to handle the influx of spammers and bad actors.

pixelfed admins: I suggest you close registrations, or use curated onboarding mode until these updates ship next week.

Loops: I'll be back. Your big brother :pixelfed: needs me for a few weeks.

For real though, I didn't want to step away from Loops until I delivered on the promises i made to all of you in 2024:

- open source server + apps
- full activitypub federation
- official Loops mobile app in App + Play Store

Done.

Now, im focused on @pixelfed's redesign + v1.0.0 release 😉

Spectra currently stores 7.5 TB of videos. As our costs continue to rise, we need to make a serious decision about the long-term viability of our platform and operations.

One thing we are thinking seriously about is defaulting to a set per-account upload limit, with the ability to pay for additional storage as needed. It's not a great situation, but we've found that a very tiny portion of our userbase tends to use up the most space.

We need to figure out something soon, as our costs and operational requirements are skyrocketing. We are currently paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars every month just to keep our #PeerTube instance going.

Summer is here, and sadly it is peak season for pet abandonment.
#PawFed is a federated map for animal welfare built on #ActivityPub and #OSM.

It already shows shelters and vets near you. Found an abandoned animal or need help? Mention @PawFed from any #Fediverse account: a pin lands on the map, and your call is relayed across the #Fediverse, whatever your instance.

A quick overview of the asterisms in the LettError fonts. All new titles have have the symbol and I will add them to older ones when useful. I prefer the asterisk with 5 strokes. For LTR Very Bauble the bottom asterisks are rotated inward to create the triangular counter. This is a pretty illusion. For CT Action Grotesque the legibility at 7pt was more important. It is a complex shape and I want to it do its job at scale. By moving the bottom asterisks outward, they create some room for the top asterisk. The whole symbol becomes a bit wider, especially in the heavier weights. Click on the images to 👀 inspect details, some nice outline details in both typefaces, if that is your cup of tea. #fediverse #asterism #fonts #typedesign

Dear Fedi friends,

It may be time for a re-introduction: I'm Elena, an Italian creative (writer, photographer, filmmaker) living in Paris, France.

You may have initially gotten to know me for my advocacy for the Fediverse (like my Fedi intro video: https://blog.elenarossini.com/fediverse-video/ or my blog or my Fediverse stock photo). So, you may have been a bit confused lately, over all my critical posts about the new network W Social. Why do I keep bringing it up?

I believe that W Social - and its required, companion app W Identity - are an existential threat to the Fediverse. So I'm fighting tooth and nail to oppose and resist them.

Why? The European Commission has enthusiastically embraced this new hard fork of Bluesky that requires age verification. Even Ursula von der Leyen advertised the launch of W Social in between G7 meetings last week.

I have MOUNTAINS of evidence of poor planning, extremely lax security, use of U.S. Big Tech platforms for something that purports to be "based in Europe, for the world."

Why is it a threat for the Fediverse? The only way to make sense of the European Commission's embrace of this platform is that maybe it sees it as a trial run for MANDATORY age verification for social media across the European Union.

No Fediverse app has infrastructure in place to comply. And if a mandate is introduced, it would spell the end of the open social web and internet anonymity... like Chat Control, but basically killing the Fediverse.

I find it EXTREMELY disturbing to see the enthusiastic embrace of W Social by the European Commission. It took them YEARS to change their website footer and add Mastodon and Bluesky instead of X. In the span of 5 weeks, they replaced the Bluesky logo (a butterfly) with the "W" from W Social.

All my posts about W Social from last week went viral. My articles have been quoted in articles in French, Dutch and German news sites (https://blog.elenarossini.com/tag/w-social/).

I have held back from sharing more e

I ended up hacking on Tokodon quite a bit this weekend! :neocat_uwu: So here's a new thread:

I spent some time polishing the Android version further, exposing a language option in App Settings and moving the cute mascots out of the way of System UI 🦣

A symbolic version of the app icon has been added specifically for notifications in the status bar as well!

Claim a podcast in NeoDB: if you own a Podcast and have a Fediverse account, add <link rel="me" href="https://your.fediverse/profile/url"> to your site and add link to your site in your podcast RSS. With this setup, you can claim your podcast in NeoDB, and the podcast page in NeoDB will be shown as verified.

This is a manual process for now, but we will make it fully automated soon just like green check in Mastodon.

Some podcasts already have both, so they will get verified automatically.
