IEEE Spectrum@ieeespectrum@mastodon.social (2026-09-02 04:30:00) In Pakistan, an AI tool designed specifically for judges has helped to boost cases resolved by 6.3 percent, with no obvious drop in judgement quality. Would you trust your judge’s call, knowing an AI tool was a part of the process? https://spectrum.ieee.org/judgegpt-experiment?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fedica-Mastodon-Daily-Pipeline

This is the first step: FediHood will also automatically split messages into city, region and country groups that everyone on the fediverse using groups will be able to interact with.

At that point, whether these orgs take a stand will be irrelevant.

fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe boosted: @jducoeur@social.coop (2026-09-02 02:09:42) Oooh, neat -- @Bonfire has officially released its #Communities module: https://bonfirenetworks.org/posts/bonfire-for-communities/

I backed the project, and I'm overjoyed to see it coming to fruition. The world *desperately* needs a good open-source, open-network, open-community alternative to enshittified monstrosities like Facebook, and #Bonfire is the first one I've seen that appears to check pretty much all the boxes of "how to do it right". It's impressively complete.

(Might force me to get off my ass and stand up my own server, so I can start hosting some of the communities I'm involved with.)

And yes, yes, Discord -- I use it a lot, but it's still corporate, still likely to enshittify, and really only covers a fraction of the Community use cases. This looks better.

So check it out -- I think it's an important project, that a lot of groups could probably benefit from...

And some information about the next, upcoming FediForum, October 6-7, online. Registration is open.

Reply to @reiver@mastodon.social fedicat@fedicat@pc.cafe (2026-09-02 02:27:22) @reiver neighbor of mine told me he lost 90lb going low carb

@reiver ⊼ (Charles) :batman:@reiver@mastodon.social (2026-09-02 02:26:23) I lost about 40 lbs recently.

When I first got married I was in pretty good shape — muscular, fit. After we had kids, I started to get out of shape. I lost a lot of the muscle I had. And, started to get fat.

Recently I lost about 40 lbs in about 2 to 2½ months. Which is rapid weight loss.

I did it mostly through: calorie deficit.

I probably went a bit too fast, as I lost some muscle, too.

But, since then I have been weight lifting and putting the muscle back on.
